This Sunday saw Karl Cudmore and John-Henry Smith represent Middx again at U20s level, both players started in the positions they held from the last game.
Middx played Kent this week at Old Merchant Taylors Ground, on which was a very windy day but good conditions otherwise.
Unfortunately Midx did end up losing this match again, however is was a much better overall performance and improvement from their last encounter with Eastern Counties, with the final score line ending; (we think) 34-19 loss.
Cudmore and Smith both started, and again overall performances were great representing Feltham well and hopefully gaining good marks from the game to move to the next step and carry on performing in the next two Middx matches which is highly likely they will both be involved.
After another woeful start and conceding in the 1st 8-10 mins, Middx went 5-0 down, however it was more of a wake up call this week and soon after Middx were camped down in the Kent half and after putting on pressure and getting quick ball on the gain line Middx soon had a reply bringing the scores level at 5-5, considering the wind it was not unsurprising that the tries were not converted.
Cudmore again showed good link play between forwards and backs with a much better platform to play from off the forwards, also making a few sniping darts Cudmore also made a few vital yards for Middx and posed a threat to the opposition. Unfortunate to Cudmore, he was brought off at half time, not due to performance but more to see how the reserve scrum half would get on.
Smith also another solid game, however not having much to do meant that at points he was out the game, although again solid defense and did pose a threat when attacking with ball in hand. After breaking the line once, and managing to hit the ground but get the offload away to Cudmore who made another 20 meters, and offloading lead to some quick phase play and resulting in a try. Middx went 12-10 up and held the lead for a while but, a well drilled Kent and playing off Middx mistakes Middx went down 17-12 at the break.
The second half saw a another slow start from Middx, which in turn allowed Kent to get some easy scores before Middx woke up and began to get in the game, however this effort may have been to late. With Middx finishing strong and getting the last score and playing most of the rugby in Kent's half Middx only had enough to convert a try once.
Smith was also pushed to the wing with approx 10 mins left which was interesting but was given a good few balls and created width on the Middx attack which spread the Kent defense out creating gaps for Middx to run at.
Both Karl and JH played well and look to carry on the representation of 2 Feltham players in Middx shirts, after receiving compliments from Bob Lawless who said; 'Its good to see 2 Feltham players in the Middx team, it has been a while since we have seen it.'
Thanks for reading, written by John-Henry Smith
Apologies if anyone took offense, it was a personal joke.
