Ex Fife Rangers player Jack Robinson in Liverpool team

WARRINGTON-born footballer Jack Robinson made the second Premier League appearance of his fledgling career on Sunday, replacing Fabio Aurelio in Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Arsenal.

Former Fife Rangers player Robinson, who became Liverpool’s youngest ever first-team player when he appeared in the final game of the 2009/2010 season against Hull City aged 16 years 250 days, came on to replace the injured Aurelio after 21 minutes and had the difficult task of marking Arsenal’s lightning quick winger Theo Walcott.

But Liverpool captain Jamie Carragher believes the youngster handled himself well in difficult circumstances.

Talking to liverpoolfc.tv about Robinson and his young defensive partner John Flanagan, he said: “They were brilliant.

“It’s unbelievable really when you think about how young they are.

“The one thing these lads have is character. To play for Liverpool you need character, no matter how good a player you are.

“You can see the spirit in Jack.

“You can have ups and downs but you've got to be strong and know how to deal with things mentally.

“Jack had to come on to play against Walcott and I wouldn't even like that job myself, never mind a 17-year-old lad!”

His performance was also lauded by Liverpool manager and Kop legend Kenny Dalglish, who was delighted that such a young player was able to handle the pressure of such a huge fixture.

“Young Jack coming on - he’s still available for the youth team next year,” Dalglish told Liverpool’s website.

“He adapted really well.

“It’s really daunting to play at the Emirates against a team chasing the championship, but it was fantastic the way he went about his work.”
