It seems a long time coming but the 2011 / 2012 season is now upon us and the players under the guidance of the new Head Coach, Paul Hunter and his coaching team including Graham “Smudge” Smith, Ian “Simmo” Simmons, Murray Forbes and Team Manager Alicia MacMahon, are as prepared as they can be having trained hard throughout the summer, and this season definately brings with it a host of new challenges.
A quick Congratulations goes to Bryan Aspinall who was voted in as the new Club Captain and to his Vice Captain Stuart Roy who has also taken on the role of Players Rep, and a thank you to Mark Love who sees the end of a six year captaincy at Fife Southern.
We now find ourselves in a very different league to last season with the numbers increasing to ten teams. The introduction of Stirling and St Andrews universities along with Grangemouth and Harris Academy means this year’s campain is going to be a hard fought one. I am however confident that the players are ready for it.
The second fifteen also find themselves in a restructured league that leaves out the pemier club’s second fifteens allowing the league to be another hard fought and close run campain. This league is an ideal oppertunity for players to develop their own game, increase match fitness and put themselves in a position to challenge for a first fifteen start.
Perhaps the biggest challenge the club now faces is the youth section, although we have a dedicated team that commit time and effort into developing a strong youth section at the club we constantly struggle for numbers, however, with the local schools being introduced to the game, and street rugby starting in the area we hope to see the number of youth players increase as the season progresses.
Finally we have a fairly busy social calender this year along with home matches nearly every week so there is plenty of oppurtunities to come and join us at Harley Street, I hope to see you all soon.
