The first half of the season has been a mixed bag of results, with wins, draws, losses and games not played due to the weather.

This leaves us 9th in the table. Yes this is also 4th from the bottom but I'd prefer to work from top down as that is where we have to aspire to be.

Availability has been a struggle in all 3 Saturday Teams which means that multiple changes have been made on a weekly basis. This instability obviously leads to inconsistency in performance, but there have been a number of admirable efforts, especially from those not necessarily expecting or wanting to be in the starting XI.

On the bowling front, Jack Tregonning has demonstrated what the future will hold with some good spells and this has even caused Shawn to come out of retirement to show that the old guard aren't done yet! As well as this, Ash Gilder along with Taylor, Nick and Matt have all bowled well and taken vital wickets. Sam Brady also looks to be filling the boots of Sat 2nd Ginger ably following the loss of Simon Rose and Johnny Brown.

Batting wise, Franksy and new recruit Ben Tarry were looking good at the top of the order before returning to the 1s. The good thing about our team is that we don't tend to keep wickets in hand and so everyone gets ample opportunity to bat which has led to numerous little cameos; hopefully this batting practice leads to more consistent performances with the bat for the second half of the season.

The winning draw on Saturday was an excellent game with the win eluding us only by 1 wicket, with tense scenes at the end (well tense in terms of 2s cricket!). It was especially enjoyable due to the noticeable camaraderie in the team - if everyone can participate in this whether we are winning or losing, it makes for a much more pleasant Saturday afternoon! If all teams continue to uphold the 'Fillongley Spirit' which has got us through barren patches in the past, I'm sure we'll weather our current storm and keep the club moving forward.
