Soon after Craig Cowley scored Fleetwood’s second with some determined running eluding several tackles to score in the corner to give a half-time lead of 10-0. With the ball in hand Fleetwood looked impressive though struggled to maintain possession against a resolute defensive side.

Fleetwood managed to extend their lead early in the second half after full-back Tom Evans cut through the defensive line for a well-deserved try. Fleet continued to press forward but couldn’t find the finishing touch. This prompted their opponents to rally and score a converted try to reduce the deficit to 15-7. More chances were then squandered by Fleetwood despite good work from Steve Woodburn and Danny Maher.
The resolute defence was eventually broken down when Aikman and Banks went down the blind side and fed the ball to Lee Jones to touch down.
In the late stages of the game Craig Cowley added his second try to earn him the man of the match award.
Final score 25-7
