Solid under 13 boys victory completes double over Burnley

Fleetwood U13s 30 – Burnley U13s 0
By Andy Stelfox

A pleasant Sunday morning on King Georges was the venue for Fleetwood’s match v Burnley. Kick off was delayed as Burnley arrived late with just 10 players, but Fleetwood having a squad of 15 loaned Burnley a couple of players to enable a 12 aside match.

Fleetwood started strong, Max Boyd fielding the Burnley kick off and using his great pace to run wide and touch down for the first try. Fleetwood defence was strong and Burnley made limited yards when in possession, Fleetwood pack won against the head and soon Corie Davies linked into the line well to cross the line for Fleetwood’s second try. George Millar ran strong in the pack and soon touched down for the third try. Theo Butterworth partnering Jasper Carter in the centres linked well off fly half Louis Prescott to cross for try number four, followed by Robert Bradder running strong and at pace to beat the Burnley defence for the 5th try and Max Boyd crossed for his second try just on half time leaving the score 30 -0 at the break.

Fleetwood started the second half at a slower pace and Burnley held firm for the first 5 minutes before Robert Bradder crossed for his second try, followed by 2 quick tries from Ethan Griggs and Harvey Harwood. Ollie Sealy showed his speed and strength by crossing for 2 further tries, Ethan Griggs crossed for his second before Tom Day capped off a great display supporting well to cross over for try number 13.

A great victory for Fleetwood who entertained the crowd with some good flowing rugby and tight defence. Great credit to the 4 lads – Dino Federa, Isaac Wiggans, Fred Laycock and Harry Jordan who all put in a half playing for Burnley and James Torkington for Officiating.

Great to get a second victory under our belts and credit must go to the lads and Coaching Staff of Paul, Gavin, Nick and Ben for the hard work and effort being put in at Training.

Sunday we will face a stronger Blackburn Team but with the progress made since early season should be looking to reverse the early season defeat by Blackburn.

Fleetwood- Davies, Griggs, Carter, Butterworth, Laycock, Prescott, Boyd, Day, Bradder, Jordan, Millar, Sealy, Harwood, Federa, Wiggans.

Training Friday 5pm
Next Fixture Away Sunday 19th March v Blackburn.
