Flint U16’s continued there run of poor form suffering another heavy defeat this time at the hands of Denbigh. Despite the return of three key players Flint never seemed to get off the mark and didn’t show any of the flare or determination that was present last season. Flints forwards looked tired and lethargic throughout the game and were turned over in the loose time after time. When the forwards did win some ball they kept allowing Denbigh’s forwards to attack the half backs unopposed. In the set pieces Flints pack held well taking several scrums against the head however they were penalised a couple of times for driving prior to the put in. In the line out Flint’s jumpers did win the contest but when giving the ball off the top the non jumping unit allowed the Denbigh forwards to flood through the line to disrupt the scrum half several times. Flint’s normally swift handling, quick paced backs, kept making basic errors and seemed to offer little pace in attack. Uncharacteristically they dropped passes, spilled the ball in the tackle, misread the called move or over ran the ball carrier. In defence the backs tackled bravely but did miss several easy tackles which lead to tries. Flint constantly set there defensive line to far back thus giving Denbigh time to regroup and run hard at Flints line. In attack Flint did not support the ball carrier and to often the forwards arrived to late to the break down thus allowing Denbigh’s quicker forwards to win easy ball and counter attack.
Overall a very poor performance from a side whose own standards are so much higher than this display suggested.
