We offer a comprehensive range of LGV/HGV, PCV and FLT driver training courses using our modern fleet of training vehicles, including:
Car and Trailer B+E, 7. 5 tonne C1, 7.5 tonne and
trailer C1+E, Truck C, Truck and Trailer C+E,
Coach D, Minibus D1 and Minibus and Trailer D1+E.

Tailored to your requirements, the courses are designed for both individual and company needs throughout Flintshire, North Wales, North West England, Cheshire and Merseyside. We are situated in Flint, North Wales.

Chevron Training are one of the very few training driver training companies in the North West and North Wales who have their own dedicated Coach and Minibus for PCV training. We offer the highest standards of training from experienced and qualified instructors and have a very high pass rate.

We take pride in providing helpful service and individually tailored courses for our customers to help them achieve their goals as soon as possible. The company supplies all customers with a professional driver training programme on LGV and PCV vehicles, and Driver CPC training for both categories; MiDAS Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme; together with additional logistics training including Forklift training, ADR, Drivers' Hours, Digital Tachograph, EPIC, Manual Handling and First Aid.

With a fully equipped classroom, forklift training centre and dedicated reversing area on site, our highly qualified, experienced and friendly staff provide the highest quality training at a very competitive cost.

Cancer Research Wales funds a great variety of projects in Wales, some large and some small but all considered important in our battle against the killer disease.

Among the most prominent of these is the Wales Cancer Bank which started sample collection in February 2005, and in 2010 we consented our 4,000th patient.

This represents an incredible commitment on the part of our patients, to whom we owe so much.

Worldwide, enormous strides are being made in our understanding of cancer, with the identification of the genes that play a part, great or small, in the development of a cancer or in its behavior. How does the Wales Cancer Bank fit into this picture?

Much of the research conducted on our samples has, to date, been directed at identifying new targets in cancer tissues, which may help in new drug development in the future, or which may help to identify cancers that behave in a particular way.

However, there is another important aspect that we can contribute to, and that is target validation. If a potential gene, protein, or other target is discovered, usually from a setting such as a clinical trial, which, though incredibly important, may have been conducted in a very selected population of patients, a question that immediately arises is; “Does this target reflect the ‘real world’, outside of a clinical trial setting, and in everyday medical practice?”

By testing our Wales Cancer Banks samples for such a target, this question could be answered. This is an arena in which we could really excel, and I predict that it will become increasingly important in years to come.

On other fronts, the work that we do fund by Cancer Research Wales’ Programme grant has yielded a number of significant research publications, notably in high quality international journals such as Cancer Research.

On the cancer immunology front, our group is one of very few worldwide to be working on the complex and bizarre structures called exosomes.

Our group has also completed and published a study showing the changes in the immune system in patients with prostate cancer during radiotherapy, and has been working with the Wales Cancer Bank to extend this knowledge in order to understand how cancer treatments affect the immune system and also what opportunities this may give us to develop immune therapies alongside existing treatments for cancer.

Our metastasis research group has continued to research into prostate cancer and in particular to unravel the incredibly complex picture of the role of Hepatocyte Growth Factor in prostate cancer and in breast cancer. Pleasingly, a number of strands of information, from our group and from others, which appeared to be quite separate, are now starting to come together, particularly in understanding the biology underlying the spread of cancers to bone.

We hope that this might be the opening of a further new chapter in understanding how cancer behaves and how it might be controlled.

As ever, our profound thanks go to our patients and their families, who have freely donated their time, and their tissue and blood samples, to our partner NHS organisations, whose support is essential in what we are trying to do, and above all, to all those people who, through their support and contributions to Cancer Research Wales, have made it all possible.

There is much still to do, but I am hopeful that, in the last year, we moved a little further down
the road.

We are here to help

Headway is a charity set up to give help and support to people affected by brain injury. It does this in a number of ways:

Locally

A network of local Groups and Branches throughout the UK and Channel Islands offers a wide range of services, including rehabilitation programmes, carer support, social re-integration, community outreach and respite care. The services available will vary, depending on local needs and resources.

Nationally

Headway UK provides support to the local Groups and Branches and helps to deliver high quality services through guidance on policies, procedures, standards and training. Additionally:
The Headway Helpline provides information, advises on sources of support, finds local rehabilitation services and offers a listening ear to those experiencing problems
We publish a range of booklets containing information about aspects of brain injury that will be helpful to those directly affected, plus professionals, employers and members of the public
We promote understanding of brain injury and its effects
We lobby for better support and resources to be made available by statutory health and social care providers
We campaign for measures that will reduce the number of brain injuries

Introduction to Wales Air Ambulance

Wales Air Ambulance is an all Wales charity providing a vital service through emergency air cover for those who face life-threatening illness or injuries.



Why are we needed?



Owing to its widely scattered population and diverse landscape, many in Wales live in isolated locations far from an accident and emergency service. Also, the ever increasing problem of traffic congestion and collisions in more urban areas denotes delayed response times for land ambulances. For these reasons, there is a recognised need for three helicopters on active duty 365 days a year.



How do we make a difference?



It is widely believed that a patient’s chances of survival and early recovery are increased if they receive the right care within the first hour, otherwise known as the Golden Hour. The quick response times and the expert medical care provided by the Wales Air Ambulance crews across Wales ensure that this Golden Hour is achieved every time.



Where are the helicopters based?



There are three helimed crews based in the North (Caernarfon), Mid (Welshpool) and South (Swansea) of Wales. Each crew has of one pilot and two advanced life support paramedics who are trained in the latest techniques in pre hospital emergency care ensure the patient receives the most effective treatment.



How long does it take to respond to an emergency?



Each helicopter can be launched within 3 minutes of receiving an emergency call. From the three airbases, a helicopter can be anywhere in Wales within just 20 minutes.



Who calls the ambulance out?



In Wales we have three ambulance controls, which are located in Llanfairfechan, Cwmbran and Carmarthen. When somebody calls 999 for an ambulance, the call goes straight to the ambulance control. The person on the end of the phone will ask the caller a number of questions relating to the medical emergency. Ambulance control will then deploy one of the helicopters.



How much does it cost to run the service?



The charity needs to raise over £5 million per year to operate the service. The charity raises all the funds required for the day to day running of missions, with each mission on average costing £1500.



How do we raise the money?



WAA is funded by the people of Wales, relying on the public support to help keep them flying. The charity does not receive direct funding from the government and because they are classed as an emergency service they also fail to qualify for National Lottery funding. The money is therefore raised through charitable donations, fundraising events, and membership of their lifesaving lottery.
