Letter from Ben Lee of London Irish re LI League
Dear All,
Well done to all so far, I have seen some great skills on show and everyone seems to be thoroughly enjoying themselves.
Unfortunately we have been having some issues with our website which is making it impossible for me to get the results and photos that I took posted.
We now have some further details of the Development Day (29th January) which will showcase rugby in its greatest form – an inclusive all-encompassing sport. Each team will enter an emerging team of players who will play 4/5 fixtures in the morning (10am start). No scores will be recorded and total emphasis will be on fun. The team sizes will remain the same but if required and in the interest of player rotation squads can be larger than regular league. This date should be a great day with Digger and hopefully some resting players in attendance (this will be confirmed by the rugby department in the New Year). Please note it is the absolute responsibility of the team managers and coaches to ensure teams are represented by ‘emerging’ players and remember the spirit in which this day is intended.
Following the Development Day we have round 3 of the regular league. This will be the final league date before the play offs (14th April) and you will play the remaining teams and some teams you have played before. Depending on how many teams there are in your age group depends on how many teams you play twice. These fixtures have all been created randomly using a fixture generator – this is the only fair way of deciding fixtures and having all teams playing as many fixtures as possible.
Some of you may already be aware but following these league fixtures on the 26th February all players are invited FREE OF CHARGE to the stadium to watch London Irish play Northampton Saints.
This fixture has been moved forward as it’s now Sky’s featured game- this has complications for us as we need to be at the stadium for a 1.15pm kick off. In order to get to the game in plenty of time I have taken the decision to move the start time of the league forward by half an hour to 9:30am. Apologies for those who have a long journey.
It is really important all teams are registered at the tents by 9am and managers are present for the regular briefing at 9:15am. Additional tickets can be purchased and coupons for specifically allocated discounted car park will be available for everyone at the registration tents, these will need to be presented to the stewards in order to get the reduced rate parking (£5 per car). There will be free parking for minibuses but you MUST let me know a week prior to the event if you require a space.
The entry fee for the London Irish League includes free entry to either Paddys Day Party (Under 7-10) or Landrover Cup (Under 11 & 12) The dates for these are 4th February for Landrover Cup and 25th March for Paddys Day Festival. If you wish to enter your team into either of these events (please only sign up if you are 100% going to attend, as you are all aware teams not turning up on the day seriously effects the enjoyment of other teams) you need to contact Catherine George.
If you have any queries around this please give me a shout.
Looking forward to seeing you all in the New Year.
Best Regards,
Ben Lee
