After the dramatic 4-4 stalemate on Saturday, Forest Hill deservedly progressed to the next round of the cup at the second chance of asking...
Jay Burke's goal late in the second half means Forest Hill made history in their debut FA Vase with a 1-0 victory....
This time It was higher level East Prestons turn to make the long journey, away visit to Ladywell Arena on Wednesday evening, after scraping a controversial 4-4 draw at their ground last Saturday to earn a replay.
As expected the visitors learnt from the first match when they were stunned by a very good FHP side. They adapted their tactics accordingly and showed the respect to the lower level hosts.
FHP started well and dominated possession from the outset & looked the more likely to open the scoring, and went close in the early stages, notably from an early incoming corner when a free header was put agonisingly wide. To keep the score at 0-0.
EP were tentative in their approach, but were more solid defensively, as they tried to shut out the free playing FHP. There wasn't too much excitement, in terms of goal action, as neither side capitalised on the rear chances.
The game became cagey, the visitors had periods of controlled possession but couldn't find an opening against the well drilled hosts. Both sides played neat & tidy football with FHP creating the better chances that could open the scoring.
As the game went on the FHP subs made an immediate impact with their movement & positive play, the earlier intensity in EPs game wavered as tiredness set in.
The hosts finally capitalised late in the game, as one of the many chances finally paid dividends, from an excellent period of team build up play, Jay Burke settled himself to slot his fine shot into the far corner beyond the EP keeper.
FHP made sure this time & held out against a solid East Preston.
