Forrester Laddie works into Scotland Squad

About 12 or 13 years ago two youngsters by the name of Sam and Jose Hidalgo Clyne came to the Club and joined our mini section. Like all the youngsters that come along they were made welcome and showed lots of enthusiasm and commitment.
As they grew older it was apparent that Sam had focused on playing for Scotland and by the time he was twelve he was knocking at my door asking me if I was free to spend time with him learning and improving his skills in the Gyle Park.
I spent ages with him as he improved his kicking and passing skills and all the time he kept repeating how he was determined to play for Scotland.
He got a good break when Merchiston Castle School gave him a bursary to study there and further concentrate on his sport.
As he grew older he managed to work his way into different age group Scotland Squads, then he got his contract with Edinburgh Rugby.
Now he is the junior scrum half in the Scotland Squad that was named this week.
Sam is committed to playing rugby at the highest level but he has never forgotten where he learned his basic skills, and by returning to the Club for different events he is a true ambassador for Forrester and an example of what can be achieved if you really want it.
I am sure everyone in the Club wishes Sam well in his rugby career and who knows, perhaps sometime in the future another Forrester player will play for a full Scotland team!
