West Edinburgh Clubs Create Partnership to Develop Schools Rugby

Corstorphine RFC and Forrester RFC have today announced the creation of a partnership between the two clubs, with the support of the Scottish Rugby Union, to work together to deliver rugby in schools.

The direct connection between the two clubs will allow for a joint effort to be used in order to develop youth rugby in the area with the aim to have as many children involved in playing rugby.

“The West side of Edinburgh was historically one of Edinburgh’s strongest areas of youth rugby where many of our members learned to play.”, says Derek Ulke, President of Corstorphine RFC. “We are excited to pool our resources with Forrester RFC to re-establish a new force in youth rugby in the West of Edinburgh focussed on Craigmount and Forrester High Schools. Our combined investment will help provide top class player development for girls and boys, showing them the lifelong benefits that playing and supporting rugby can offer.” adds Derek who is a great example as he still turns out for the club just shy of his 60th birthday.

“Forrester RFC are excited to build the future of youth rugby in West Edinburgh with our partners Corstorphine Cougars RFC and the Scottish Rugby Union” says Forrester RFC President Garry Smith. “Both clubs are committed to this venture and we both share the same goals to bring success. With the recruitment of a new YDO, we will deliver rugby to local children and spread the spirit of rugby to the community and can’t wait to get started!”

The partnership creates an exciting job opportunity with the creation of a Youth Development Officer for the area, details which can be found on the SRU website.
