FRAMLINGHAM TOWN 0, STOWMARKET TOWN 3
THURLOW NUNN PREMIER DIVISION
TUESDAY 7th AUGUST 2008 KO 7.45pm
The Castlemen entertained a talented Stowmarket Town side on Tuesday evening in front of a crowd in excess of 100. The visitors eased to victory against newly promoted Framlingham Town in their first home game in the Premier Division. Stowmarket were fresh from a home win on Saturday as Fram slipped to a 3-1 loss at Ely City. The home side made a promising start as the game was played at pace. Sweeney was creating problems for the home defence as Stow were pushing forward in numbers. On 32 minutes Stow opened the scoring when Skipper Ollie Brown put the ball into the danger area where Luke Read was in the right place to turn the ball past Chilvers from just outside the six-yard box. The visitors doubled their lead in the 69th minute following Fram giving the ball away in the Stow area, Robbie Sweeney ran onto Max Melanson’s through ball before tucking the ball home past keeper Chilvers from 15 yards out. Five minutes later it was 3-0, centre -half Phil Weavers met a corner with a thumping header into the top corner. Johnny Kerridge had a couple of shots charged down, Ant Johnson had a goal bound shot cleared while Simon Poacher volleyed over the bar early on. Stowmarket took control of the game in the latter stages with ex Braintree Town midfielder Matt Paine pulling the strings in the middle and Ollie Brown seeing a lot of the ball down the right. Cyrus Thorp was influential for Fram and had to intervene with a last ditch tackle to prevent Luke Read from scoring. Fram came close in the dying minutes; Johnny Kerridge header was turned past the visitors post however it was the visitors who took the points and must be favourites for promotion, even at this early stage of the season.
