Frampton Edged Out in Seven Goal Thriller
Oldland Abbotonians Reserves strike late to take all 3 points against Frampton Athletic in end to end contest.
Frampton Athletic took an early lead in the game after a Mike Beake free kick cannoned off the bar and fell to MAtt Britton who seemed to just 'salmon' the ball over the line! However, Oldland were soon back on level terms before the half time break, as their tricky midfield danced through the entire Frampton side before slotting the ball through the legs of Nick Talbot.
HALF TIME 1-1
Frampton retook the lead within 10 mins of the restart, with Ethan Wilson beating 2 or 3 Oldland players before sending the ball to the far post, where Matt Johnson was on hand to smash the ball into the back of the net!
Within minutes, Oldland were back level again. The Oldland forward was given time and space inside the 18 yard box, before taking the ball forward to the 6 yard box and hammered the ball into the back of the net, clipping the near post on it's way!
Oldland than had a great opportunity to take the lead, from a Frampton corner! The ball broke free from the corner and it was 6 vs 1 in Oldlands favour as they broke quickly on the counter attack. Jake Beacham stood strong and did his best to defend against the Oldland stampede, but was relieved when the resulting ball into the box was poor and Jake was able to clear the ball!
Matt Johnson had a chance to put Frampton ahead in the 60th minute, but his shot went narrowly wide.
Pat Jenkins was brought off the bench on the 65th minute to inject a bit more life and movement upfront and it very nearly paid off immediately, as Pat raced through on goal, one-on-one with the goalkeeper, supported by Matt Johnson in space to his left, but Pat opted to shoot for goal, but his shot was wide of the target, much to the frustration of Johnson!
With just 10 minutes left on the referee's watch, Oldland took the lead for the first time in the match. From a corner kick, the ball was played in deep to the far post where the Oldland forward towered up high past a helpless Matt Britton and smashed the header into the back to net.
Frampton didn't let their spirits drop and were back on level terms in the 88th minute! Mike Beake had managed to work his way inside the penalty area with the ball, before a melee in the area saw the ball pop out sideways to the feet of Pat Jenkins, whose cool finish saw him slot the ball into the corner of the net, surely giving both teams a fair and equal point!
However...straight from the kick off, Oldland played the ball through a tired looking Frampton side and the attackers job was made all too easy by Nick Talbot in the Frampton goal, who should've put everything through it, but hesitated as the ball was poked underneath him and into the back of the net.
The result was unfair on the Frampton players, who were on top for the vast majority of the game and on balance, looked the better side, but their inability to tackle and some sloppy goalkeeping inevitably cost them! But they will bounce back and they will certainly pick up their fair share of points throughout the season if they continue to perform as they did in the majority of this game!
