Scottish Cup Round 1
What a good way to start the season!
Stand-in skipper Jock Wallace reports that everyone played really well.
The wet weather made for a heavy pitch, but it had also hampered the efforts of the groundsmen; the outfield was longer than usual and very slow. Ayr batted first and found runs very hard to come by, while Freuchie's bowlers did well. With none of our regular wicket keepers available, Alan Wallace did a great job behind the stumps, but extras were higher than we might have wished, However, Ayr were all out for 84 in something under 40 overs. Jock particularly praised Liam and Robbie for their fielding, but Kash was the star, with 6 wickets for only 12 runs.
Freuchie's innings started well, although we too found runs hard to get and wickets fell steadily. Scott Gourlay played his usual authoritative innings and carried us through to 85 for 7. A good day at the office.
