The Blues earned a well deserved point on Tuesday night, as they pegged back high fliers Buxton in a pulsating 1-1 draw.

Despite conceding inside three minutes, Karl Rose’s side bounced back, and Gavin Allott fired an equaliser moments after the break. He had further chances, including one cleared off the line, in a match Frickley had the better of.

They had it all to do from the start however. A deep free kick somehow found Buxton forward Liam Hardy, who bundled the ball over the line despite calls for offside.

The rest of the half was played mainly outside of the pitch, with neither team able to get a prolonged amount of time on the ball due to high winds and poor play. Danny South was inches away from a header from Luke Hinsley’s cross, but visiting keeper Arron Jameson just managed to clear before the big number 9 could pounce.

Both sides were forced into first half substitutions, with Jameel Ible limping off to be replaced by Luke Jeffs, whilst Buxton’s Alastair Taylor hobbled away. Danny South had a more clear cut chance later on, but headed a corner over, whilst the impressive Luke Hinsley blazed a volley above the crossbar after a neat lay off from Allott.

But the equaliser did come, almost as quickly as Buxton’s in the first half. Allott had already fired at the keeper in the opening seconds of the second half, but he went one better a minute later. Brad Riley’s clever through ball released the Blues forward, and he chipped over the oncoming Jameson to level matters.

From then on Frickley were largely the better team, Riley almost cutting a ball into the path of Allott, whilst he this time turned provider for Matty Young, who hit over under pressure.

And then came the game’s best effort. A long heave upfield drew out Jameson, and he misjudged the bounce of the ball, allowing Allott to round him and bare down on goal. But just as it looked like the home side were to take the lead, Ash Palmer’s superb last ditch block denied The Blues’ hitmans left foot shot.

Palmer performed more heroics later on as he blocked another one of Frickley’s top scorers efforts, and Buxton nearly nicked it through headers from Greg Young and Hardy.

The result sees Frickley sit in 15th place, just four off the play-offs, whilst Buxton lost ground on leaders Skelmersdale who increased the gap to six points.
