A 48th minute penalty from Nick Guest saw the home side beat the Blues 1-0 in the opening pre-season game.

With Luke Hinsley having second thoughts over a move to Goole he was one of only three of last season's squad in the starting eleven, Ben Simpson and Gavin Allott being the other two.

New signings John Cyrus and Conor Qualter formed an impressive central defensive partnership in the first half which saw the Blues rarely troubled at the back.

Qualter had the Blues' first chance when his shot following a corner was blocked on the line in the 4th minute. Allott had a shot blocked by the legs of the Hemsworth goalkeeper in the 14th minute and in the 28th minute Allott and Hinsley combined for Hinsley to drag an angled shot just wide.

Half time saw numerous changes to the Blues line-up with Sam Denton and Luke Jeffs coming into the defence and personnel in most other positions changed.

The only goal of the game came in the 48th minute when Nick Guest beat Simpson from the spot after Jeffs was penalised for a challenge inside the box.

The Blues lacked the cohesion of the first half, rarely troubling the Hemsworth goal but at the other end SImpson had to be alert to tip over a great shot from former Blues' player Jason Yates.

Frickley Athletic (starting XI) : Simpson, Parkinson, Ridley, Young, Cyrus, Qualter, Harris, Riley, Hinsley, Allott, Jones.
