Frickley Academy Mid Season Update
It's mid season for our Academy and things are coming along nicely after doubling in size for the 2016-17 season. We have 150 players developing through the 10 age groups all coached by local ex players who are themselves progressing through their F.A. Coaching Badges.
Our aim is simple and three fold as they move through the age groups
1) U8-U10 -introduction to football
2) All Ages - develop and enjoy
3) U11+ Compete and progress to the highest level possible
The Academy's mission is to fill the gap between Junior Grassroots Football Teams and Professional Academies developing talent and forming partnerships with league clubs - we are well on our way to achieving this and are always looking for more coaches to come and join us - we will develop you too.
We will be looking to grow and improve once again next season but so far this season we have already achieved success with potential for more to come. Our 20 volunteer coaches all approach each training session with the same attitude - not to concentrate on who is the best, but to ensure as a team each player is better next week than they are this week. Development is key at grassroots, growing together as a team from a young age will bring rewards in the long run. Go out, play as one and enjoy!
U8 - New team this season - lots of fun, enjoyment and improvement. Potential to split into two groups next season due to the huge amount of interest from potential new players wanting to join The Young Blues, always looking for new coaches. Coached by Ben Craggs
U9 - 2 teams - Yellow and Blue , both very successful in the Autumn campaign and have been promoted as a result. A very exciting age group for Frickley in their 3rd year together with significant interest from professional clubs, 6 players are currently with development centres and more will follow, a great group which we are looking to expand with a Saturday team for the players playing up a year next season at U9 . Coached by Mark Studd, Jason Dale and Ryan Till.
U10 - New team this season and our only Saturday side but could progress with a Sunday team next season too. Topped their Autumn league and are developing all the time unbeaten in their last 11 games. Coached by Darren Brown and Scott Peart
U11 - New team this season who despite struggling for numbers initially started great in their first season at competitive football winning 7 of the 13 games scoring over 70 goals too. This group is growing all the time and will get stronger as their numbers increase . Coached by Andy Campsall
U12 - The group has been together for over 6 years and despite many penalty shoot out defeats won their first tournament together before Christmas, a very high standard of technical players competing in the Doncaster Premier League - currently sitting 3rd and in the quarter finals of the Cup.11 a side beckons next season which they are desperate for with such a talented squad of 15 players - high hopes over the coming years for this team. Coached by Darren Greene and Dean McDermott
U14 - The team has been together for 8 years but have been struck down by lots of injuries this season, struggling to field the minimum of 11 on some occasions. They are really looking forward to the 2nd half of the season as players come back and new players join. The team are very much in a false position in the Doncaster Premier League and the only way is up for this talented group. Coached by Robert Woollard, Rob Dawson and Andy Swift.
U15 - New team this season whose enthusiasm is a credit to the Academy, due to lack of opportunities they have had to play in a U16 league and results have suffered as result but each week they have become more and more competitive with good times ahead when they get to play on a equal age playing field.Coached by Conor Lynch
U16 - New team with lots of new signings joining in the Autumn. A slow start in the Barnsley Premier League but momentum has built with 6 wins from their last 7 and our U16 currently sit top of their league. Coached by Lee Whitehead
U19 - The final hurdle before hopefully joining the first team ranks. Playing in the Northern Alliance Central Division they currently sit at the top after just 1 defeat in 9. They are also through to the quarter finals of The Pat Rice Trophy playing Scarborough Athletic away 31/01. Jack Burton, Josh Diggles, Charlie Mahon and Dan Palmer have all seen action in the first team with others registered. Coached by former Athletic player Mick Thompson and Ian Nicholson there is an abundance of talent trying to knock on the door to those Saturday 3pm kick offs.
Run by a team of volunteers we are extremely proud of what we are achieving in the background developing your Young Blues . The Academy is here for the long run and we are working hard to create not just ours but your stars of the future.
