Another presentation that took place on Saturday was to Treasurer Andy Steel who is stepping down at the end of May after nearly 15 years in the role.

All at Frickley are very grateful to Andy for his efforts and wish him well in the future. He isn’t separating all ties with the club though and will still attend matches as and when he can as well as having an input into the club programme.

It was through the programme that Andy first got involved at Frickley following a discussion with then Programme Editor (now Club Secretary) Steve Pennock at a game at Bamber Bridge during the 2000/01 season which led to Andy starting to contribute towards the programme.

Shortly afterwards, Frickley were on the lookout for a new Treasurer following James Handley leaving the role and Andy expressed an interest and not long afterwards took over the reins.

Since then Andy has done a first class job of looking after the financial side of the club with his successor having a tough act to follow.

On stepping down as Treasurer Andy said, “I've very much enjoyed my association with Frickley Athletic F.C., making many friends over the years, all of whom I intend to keep in touch with by still following the team next and in future seasons. I feel it's time to move on from my role as treasurer to allow more time to pursue other interests.”

“The years at the club have had a good many ups and downs. Sitting in the Directors box at Hillsborough on Tuesday 11th May 2004 watching Frickley beat Worksop Town to lift the Sheffield Senior Cup will stay with me for a long time. As a life-long Sheffield Wednesday fan, I spent most of the evening reliving all the games I'd watched stood on the "Kop", not thinking that one day I'd be sat in that lofty spot supporting my (new) team win a trophy. By contrast on Tuesday 13th October 2009, Frickley lost on penalties to Lincoln United in an F A Cup replay, knowing that should we win, (and most people thought that we should,) we would go on to a home tie with Cambridge United in the next round. In fact it has been the one thing that I regret in my years with the club, that we have not had at least one really good cup run, maybe we will now that I'm not an official of the club!”

“So, I wish the club well in the years to come, but a message to all you who support Frickley, the club doesn't run itself, a small band of people do a lot of work to keep the club at the level it is, If you can help them more than you are currently doing, please offer your services, I know it would be appreciated.”

“To all who know me, thanks for the past 14 years or so.”
