Frickley manager Peter Rinkcavage says that the 6-0 defeat at the hands of Chorley back in August was the motivation behind his teams’ superb 2-1 win.

He said, “Chorley gave us a torrid time back in August and they had 7 of those players playing against us on Saturday. Their strikers were the same pair that did the damage against us last time and they were up against our same centre backs. This was a big challenge for our two both individually, and as a partnership, and they couldn’t have done any more. Neither Chorley striker even had a shot at goal and apart from the own goal they never really threatened us.”

Rinkcavage continued, “We were overrun in midfield back in August too and again both teams had the same central midfield pair so we challenged our two to show they could be a match for Chorley’s pair and again, on the day, we came out on top.”

Rinkcavage was pleased with the character of his team as they again went a goal behind due to a defensive error. He said, “The own goal was unfortunate but avoidable and we again went behind in a game we looked comfortable in. We lost Ryan Mallon early in the game too and it made you wonder what else could go wrong for this team. However, our second half performance was superb and we should have scored before our equaliser, but once we did get back on level terms, there was only one winner. It was, in the end, a surprisingly comfortable win and one we thoroughly deserved.”

Rinkcavage also had praise for the clubs ‘supporters who gave their team nonstop verbal backing. He said, “Our fans were fantastic on Saturday and created a real cup-tie atmosphere. I am delighted that the team responded as well as they did and the win became a real joint effort. We have a long way to go and we know the next few weeks and months will be difficult but I hope we sent out the message that we are not finished yet. We have beaten Matlock and Chorley within four days and we will be working hard to build on these victories as we await the visit of another high flying team on Saturday.”
