With Stuart Ludlam and Danny South suspended, while Mark Gray's loan spell has ended, manager Peter Rinkcavage had to reshuffle and the Blues defence never knitted together efficiently.

Although the ball rarely falls favourably for the Blues at present, they have to make their own luck and owed much to goalkeeper Stephen Dickinson in the opening exchanges.

He held a 20 yard drive from Jimmy Beadle in the ninth minute, and did well to grasp a strong 15 yard shot by Billy Blackford four minutes later.

Ben Turner whipped in a low cross in Frickley's first dangerous attack after 15 minutes but Ollie Ryan and Brad Grayson both failed to connect, although Ryan immediately broke down the left and put an angled shot into the side netting.

A through ball was missed by Lincoln Adams in the 17th minute, allowing Andrew Appleby to slot it past the advancing Dickinson to give Town the lead.

Alex Calley sent Kelvin Bleau down the right two minutes later and he put over a teasing cross which the visiting defence did well to clear.
A cross from Grayson in the 25th minute dropped to Ryan, but he stubbed his foot as he shot and Nicholas Liversedge saved.

Frickley should have equalised a minute after the interval, Grayson miskicking a shot wide from five yards, and James Ashmore then shaved the bar with a 25 yard free-kick.

It was almost one-way traffic, Ashmore having a free-kick blocked in the 65th minute before the Blues got on terms after 76 minutes, Ollie Ryan beating two defenders before slotting the ball in from ten yards.
Karl Jones, who had replaced an injured Callery, saw his shot blocked in the 82nd minute, and had a header saved after a free-kick by Turner four minutes later.

Whitby, who seemed content to hang on, broke away in the 90th minute to get a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area from which sub Matthew Tymon rammed the ball in to give them a surprise success.
