Frickley Athletic 4-2 Stocksbridge Park Steels
Jake Picton was a hat trick hero as Frickley gained three valuable points at the expense of Stocksbridge.
The Blues drew some early sting from the visiting attack, and put pressure on the Steels cover before taking the lead in the 25th minute when a free-kick from the right by Terry Barwick was headed in by Picton.
Stocksbridge responded with Tom Woodhead saving a low 20 yard drive from Cole Payne, and the home keeper distinguished himself again in the 37th minute when he foiled Andy Ring with another fine save.
A curling corner kick by Jimmy Ghaichem was pushed round the far posrt by Ben Scott in the 42nd minute, and Luke Hinsley made a penetrating run a minute later before picking out Matty Bloor, whose 25 yard drive shaved an upright.
Three minutes after the interval, a free-kick by Ghaichem on the left was not cleared, the ball dropping to Gavin Allott, who turned and drilled in a low shot from the edge of the penalty area.
Ben Turner tested Woodhead with a 20 yard drive in the 53rd minute, play switching to the other end where Yates floated in a cross and Allott put a glancing header inches wide of the far post.
On the hour, Woodhead reacted quickly to turn away a blistering 20 yard drive from former Frickley striker Danny South.
Picton produced another fine header to increase Frickley's advantage in the 68th minute after a pinpoint cross from Yates, and he struck again with a close range shot eight minutes later after a razor-sharp Blues raid.
The home side may have taken their foot off the pedal, and Stocksbridge grabbed a goal back in the 80th minute when sub Adam Todd bundled the ball in after a free-kick from the left, while they narrowed the gap again six minutes later, South finding the net with a first time volley from the edge of the penalty area.
