Frickley 0 Gainsborough 1
Phew, what a scorcher
When the weather is in the early 20s & hot with it, what do you do - watch the Test Match, watch a bit of Wimbledon, sit in the garden with a beer & give yourself food poisoning by under BBQing the prawns or rock up to the Wezziecana to watch Les Bleus face Gainsborough Trinity in the first PSF of the 17/18 season - well 157 of us did just that & we were served very well by both teams despite the scorchio.
The Blues fielded strong, but almost completely different, teams in both halves but were unable to get the goal to give them a draw. Gainsborough scored in the first half, Frickley had the ball in the net but it was flagged for offside. Mark Simpson showed some wonderful feet in the second half but his chip over the keeper went a gnats snakebelt over the bar.
Ex Blue Tom Davie came on for the opposition in the 2nd half
Stand out Frickley player (to these eyes) was Nicky Darker.
Next up is Athersley away on Wednesday - kick off 7pm
