Frickley 3 Corby Town 0
Business as usual
Frickley gave a scintillating display of football - attack & counter attack combined with quality defending - to leave high flying Corby Town at 6s & 7s (more numbers to come shortly.....)
Gav came back into the 11 & Shawn Mitchell made his debut following his signing from Maltby & it was Gav who had the first chance after the Corby keeper fluffed his clearance. He beat a couple of defenders to get into the box, but a 3rd defender was able to get a toe in just before he pulled the trigger. Next it was Jacob Hazel (more of him later) breaking into the box but he couldn't get any power in his shot which was comfortably saved. Then Allott, Frost & Hazel combined to set up Jacob & his shot was bound for the top corner until the defender got a magnificent block in. Frostys turn next - ball through & he turned on the afterburner to break away from the defence, his first touch took him wide but he still got a good hit on the ball which was well saved with Big Gav poised to clear up if it wasn't well saved.
The inevitable first goal came on 26 minutes, with The Iceman scoring. He got the ball & with footwork that wouldn't have been out of place on Strictly last night, he danced round 3 defenders & smashed it home from 10 yards - quality work by Frosty.
HALF TIME - FRICKLEY 1 CORBY 0
Corby came out to give it a go in the early stages of the second half & actually forced Sebba into a save but it was soon back to business as usual & Gav broke clear but the ball seemed to stop on him as he was about to take it into the box & the defenders tidied up.
Next up came the move of the game - 66 minutes gone, Gav Allott back in his own half feeds the ball to Frosty, Frosty sets Teddy Bloor loose down the right. Rocksteady just looks up & sends a gorgeous banana pass to split the defence & Haze is running on to it - you all know what's coming next, 2 nil & number 17 for Jacob.
Shortly after the Iceman came off (1 goal, assist - not a bad afternoons work) & was replaced by Stone Cold Steve Hopewell. He was straight into the action, setting up Gav who had a shot palmed out for a corner. Duggie whips the corner in & it is cleared to Haze who smashes a shot from about 20 yards & it's inches over.
It's Gav & Haze time again - Gav puts a delightful ball through for Haze to run on to & he clinically dispatches it - 3 nil, 80 minutes gone, number 18 for Purple Haze.
That was Gavs last action & he was replaced by Fab Bailey & then debutant Mitchell was replaced by Jack Burton & the Blues successfully saw out the game
FINAL SCORE - FRICKLEY 3 CORBY 0
The win takes us to 4th in the league, 2 points off 2nd place
Here's a few numbers - Jacob Hazel has 18 for the season & 42 in total. That's the 7th consecutive game that he has scored in which I suspect is a record although I'm sure a Statto will put me right if it isn't & in those games he has scored 11 times. Some player!
WEBMASTER MOTM - tough, really tough. Sebba had nowt to do but pulls 2 top quality saves out of the bag, defence & midfield managed the game really well & the front 3 were unplayable at times. But tough decisions call for tough decision makers & I am that man (well, Ken decided actually - but this is my internet, not his) & the Glitterball goes to Shawn Mitchell - won everything, ran for fun, looked after the ball & basically looked like he'd been playing for the Blues for years as opposed to it being his first start. Well played sir.
244 through the gate - thank you to everyone for coming.
Well done to the club for playing The Last Post during the minutes silence - a touching & fitting tribute to our fallen heroes.
Next up, we're away to Market Drayton Town next Saturday - see you there
