Cleethorpes 0 Frickley 1

One in the eye for the Estuary-siders

Good King Spencer sent the lads out
Sadly lacking Hopewell
Though he is a massive loss
Frickley seemed to cope well

Sprightly was Jameel in flight
When Darkenbauer put it in the hole
The Masterblaster got his header just right

Not a game to rival the totaalvoetbal of early 70s Holland, but I've just looked in the paper, we won, Jammer scored, we got 3 points.

Frickley gave debuts to Ben Algar & Tyler Blake, & Ishy Dawson took a place on the bench.

The short size of the Cleethorpes pitch meant that the players were very compacted & at times we appeared to be playing a back 6 which quickly changed into a front 5. The first meaningful action of the half saw Haze burst into the box, only to be cleaned out by the keeper which left the referee no option but to award a.........goal kick! Then a Darker exocet was flick headed by Cam Hough & it was only just wide of the far stick. Tyler set up Gav for a turn & shot which the keeper made a good reaction save to & then Roll Royce Rich Patterson set up Haze for a special but it went wide. Next up was the move of the first half, Haze fed Tyler on the edge of the box & he spun & hit a shot in one movement but it crashed against the outside of the post with the keeper not even in the same postcode.

A few cases of handbags interrupted the play but when football broke out again Frickley had a great chance with RPatts whipping in a good cross for Danny Frost who headed wide from a decent position.

Darker cross / Allott header combo early on but straight at the keeper & then Darker set up Rocksteady Teddy for a cross which was cleared to Haze about 25 yards out - you knew what was coming but his shot was inches over the bar.

The main news of the half so far - Sebba collected a cross & fell awkwardly on his knee & stayed down & unfortunately that was his work done for the afternoon as he limped off. But cometh the hour, cometh the man & that man was Stan who took Sebbas place as custodian of the onion bag & to be honest it was just business as usual.

Then on 82 minutes, a Darkenbauer exocet from the left is cleared back to him. He whips in a cross & Jameel leaps, like a salmon catching a mayfly, & heads it into the far corner. He got a right whack in the mince pie for his troubles at the same time & had to leave the field & was replaced by Duggie, with Darker going back to defensive duties. Tyler Blake was replaced by Ishy Dawson as the Greens saw out the game very comfortably.

The vocal Cleethorpes Calippo Ultras didn't seem to like our game plan - a game plan which was create a good number of chances & restrict the home team to one long range shot - I thought it was a jolly good game plan. Truth of the matter is that the Owls were out-everythinged by the Eagles!

WEBMASTER MOTM - a good solid team performance. Tyler Blake looked lively on debut & Ben Algar knows how to play football. Cammy Hough was assured all game & the front 3 never stopped running. But the 3 standouts were Darker, RPatts & Jammer. The 2 phrases that Ken & I used most on commentary were 'ball out for a throw in on the far side' & 'Jameel tidies up at the back once again', add that to his winning goal & the Glitterball has to go to The Masterblaster. Despite coming off we've had a message from Jammer & he's fit for Tuesday. I've also got to give a mention to Stan for his outstanding cameo performance in goal

252 though the gate with a good number from South Elmsall, thank you for coming.

Next up - we're at home to Stocksbridge on Boxing Day - 3pm kick off - see you there
