Frickley 8 Market Drayton 0
Tora Tora Tora
Anyone who was lucky** enough to be at Westfield Lane yesterday afternoon witnessed a display of brutal beauty as Frickley blew away Market Drayton (**Market Drayton fans may not have felt particularly lucky).
JB returned to midfield & Darkenbauer was on the bench but the most significant change to the squad came as Spen gave a young lad a run out between the sticks & had another young keeper (Brooksey) on the bench as Hugo was called up for the Sheffield United under 23 squad.
An early chance for Frickley as Tom Dugdale (more of him later) scampered down the wing & crossed for Gav who got under his header & the keeper saved under the crossbar. We didn't have to wait too long for the opening goal (14 minutes stat fans!) - Ben Algar & Haze worked a free kick into the box, Burns headed it on & it dropped to Gav who stuck it home from close range - his 20th of the season & 108th career goal for the club. 15 minutes later & the Algar / Allott combo are in action again but Gav put his header wide this time. Then Gav showed some lovely feet to set up Haze for a rasping drive from the edge of the box but the keeper pulled off a cracking stop & it went out for a corner.
A 3 man move set up the 2nd goal, Stan throws it out to Duggie, Duggie powers down the wing, Haze shows him where he wants the ball, Duggie puts it exactly where he wants it, Haze into the box, pulls the trigger - 2 nil. 30 minutes gone, Haze's 30th goal of the season.
Duggie / Haze combo again sets up Tyler Blake to crash the 3rd home 5 minutes later & shortly after Ben Algar puts in a great ball (& gets cleaned out in the process) & Tyler scores again to make it 4.
A superb set of interchanging passes finds Duggie with the ball at his feet about 10 yards from goal - 5 nil on the stroke of half time
HALF TIME - FRICKLEY 5 MARKET DRAYTON 0
Frickley could have been forgiven for taking it easy in the 2nd half as the game was already over but Gav wasn't having it & he set up Tyler who dragged his shot just wide.
After 55 minutes Rolls Royce Rich Patts was replaced by.........Darkenbauer - so no respite for the visiting midfielders & then Ben Algar was replaced by Ishy Dawson. Algar was superb up to that point & getting subbed possibly cost him the Glitterball.
Number 6 came on 60 minutes - the ball ping ponged around on the edge of the area, but then Haze had seen enough & just smashed it home from about 20 out. If the net hadn't stopped it the ball would have probably landed in the old pit yard!
The visitors plugged away & had a great effort from a free kick but Stan went all Malkowski-esque / Warhurst-esque (take your pick) & pulled off a cracking stop to push it round the post.
The skipper was replaced by Cammy Hough - & he looked absolutely furious, he was clearly fancying filling the onion bag some more!
The 7th came on 75 minutes - Haze whips in a free kick & a Tyler Blake / MD defender combo help it into the net. The goal was eventually given as an OG - pity as that would have been Tylers hat trick.
Stan gets the ball out to Duggie, Duggie breaks forward & feeds Haze. Haze takes it into the box & smashes it home for number 8 - not the first time that this happened in the match. Jacobs 32nd goal of the season & his 55th career goal for Frickley. That made it 8 nil & continued the Blues run of scoring in the last 10 minutes. The victory meant that the club have won 8 league games on the bounce & 9 straight in all competitions.
Frickley have now scored 72 league goals (14 of them against Market Drayton!) & are the highest scorers in the 3 Evostik leagues - we have scored 92 in all competitions.
A word for the visitors - even they've shipped goals against us their players never stopped running, in both games against us. It would have been the easiest thing in the world for them to go & hide but they never gave in. Salut!
WEBMASTER MOTM - where do I start? Algar was brilliant, JB looked like he'd never been out of the team & ran all afternoon. Haze, Gav & Tyler gave the defence more than they could handle but the Glitterball goes to Tom Dugdale, who had his best game in a Frickley shirt. He was superb down the left, scored once & had 2 assists. Well done sir!
218 through the gate, thanks to all of you for attending & we hope you enjoyed the show.
