Lincoln United 1 Frickley 0
As Ian Curtis once crooned "Where will it end?"
Frickley suffered their 4th defeat on the bounce, losing to a 2nd half goal at Lincoln.
Spen shuffled the pack with Allott being unavailable, but McSheffrey, Jammer, Ben Algar & Connor Smith being available once again. Richie Patterson moved to a deeper position than of late & it suited him & Connor Smith played more of a right wing back role.
The first half was a largely dour midfield battle with neither keeper really troubled, although Shef did have the ball in the net but he was flagged for marginal offside
HALF TIME - NIL NIL
Jamie McGuire replaced Jack Burton at half time & he was quickly in the action firing over from outside the box.
Lincoln took the lead on the hour when the defence was caught on its heels with a far post corner being headed home
Danny Rowe had a header saved from a free kick & then Johno Williams had a free kick well saved & the resulting corner was cleared.
James Morris replaced The Shef & he too was quickly in the action, firing over after good work by Ben Algar & then heading over from a corner.
Liam Carrick replaced a limping Danny Rowe.
Right at the death Connor Smith nearly rescued a point for us but his shot grazed the top of the bar, meaning that the Blues haven't scored for 6 hours now - I've got shorter box sets!!
So, what do we do next??? Well this is not the time to panic - management, players & fans need to hold their nerve, as the famous proverb says 'faint heart never won fair maiden'. As South Elmsall is full of fair maidens, faint hearts need not apply......
Obviously a disappointing result (& run of results) but the performance by the team was much improved from recent games, they put everything into the game but didn't get anything out of it. Life's like that some times.
WEBMASTER MOTM - a few stand out displays. The head bandaged Jammer had a welcome return, Teddy Bloor gave his usual non-stop combative performance & Ben Algar performed very well but I'm going to award the Glitterball to Connor Smith. He was dangerous in his attacking role all game & almost dug us out of the hole right at the end.
196 through the gate & once again another good following from South Elmsall, thank you to everyone who travelled.
Let's put it right on Saturday, we're at home to Spalding in a league game & we need everyone to get to the Lane & get behind the team
