Frickley 0 Morpeth 2
My thanks to guest reporter Ken Whitehead for this one - defo worth a read. I've injected the controversial bits.....
Sorry for the delay in getting this report up, the Aldi Xmas catalogue arrived on Sunday & I've only just finished it.
The Highwaymen didn’t really shine on a grey afternoon at Westfield Lane but stole the points in this bad tempered encounter.
It was fairly even until Morpeth tapped in a 10th minute diagonal ball in from the right. This was quickly followed by the double sending off of Daniel Carson of Morpeth and Richard Patterson from Frickley after an altercation before play could be restarted. Straight reds for something that wouldn't even get you a telling off in a nursery school playground
Frickley had the best of the next 20 minutes with chances for Jacob Hazel and a better one for Tyler Walton that stung Graham Pickering’s palms in the Morpeth net.
Frickley’s best effort of the first half came in the 39th minute when a Danny Rowe header was cleared off the Morpeth goal line.
The second half started in scrappy fashion until Rowey hit the bar from 30 yards in the 55th minute. It was against the run of play then when a Morpeth player, who was so far offside he was in South Kirkby, scored Morpeth’s second in the 58th minute.
The 67th minute dismissal of Jameel Ible didn’t help to further the Blues’ cause. Jammer admitted he caught the keeper as a result of his forward momentum but it was purely accidental & no way a straight red. The keeper went down like he'd ingested a kilo of novichok. A sad end to Jammers 150th appearance for the Blues
The last 25 minutes saw both sides probing but without any significant success for either and Morpeth happy enough to sit on their lead.
Morpeth are a very skillful team, they are also very well schooled in the dark arts as was evident throughout the game
WEBMASTER MOTM - good performances throughout, stand outs for me were Algar, Watt & Jed Wilkinson in midfield. But my Glitterball goes to Danny Rowe, strong at the back & unlucky not to get on the score sheet
