Frickley 5 Cleethorpes 4
& not a goal GIF to be seen!
A joy for neutrals, nightmare for defence coaches....
Plenty of changes to the squad that beat Carlton on Saturday. Dan Wallis came in to replace Hugo, Akeem Hinds made his debut, James Morris came back into the squad as did Dangerous Dan & The Power Watt & Tyler. The Shef & Alistair Smith made their full home debuts too & Johno Williams returned to the starting 11
It was to be the night of the Loan Rangers......
James Morris, who performed heroics as sub keeper on Saturday, reverted back to the day job & picked up on a defensive mistake & provided a clinical finish to make it 1-0 after 12 minutes, but Cleethorpes came back with an equaliser 10 minutes later.
10 minutes after that Frickley were in front again when Ali Smith instigated a move with great footwork in the box, which ultimately freed up Dangerous Dan to pull the ball across the face of goal & it was Smith who stuck it in the onion bag.
10 minutes after that, another mistake by Cleethorpes & James Morris is on the spot again although there may have been the slightest whiff of the defender getting a touch on it too, 3-1.
HALF TIME - FRICKLEY 3 CLEETHORPES 1
Any thoughts that the game was settled were put to bed immediately as Cleethorpes came out & scored with the first attack of the half, 3-2.
Moz was replaced by Haze at this point & he got a well deserved hand as he left the field
62 minutes gone, Frickley take a corner, Jammers header is saved but debutant Akeem Hinds is on hand to power home, 4-2. At this point there had been a goal on 12, 22, 32, 42 & 62 minutes.....
Joe Hayden replaced Connor Smith
Goal of the game on 69 minutes, Alistair Smith picks up the ball & runs at the away defence before hitting a shot from distance into the bottom corner, 5-2. Game over surely......
Liam Carrick replaced Jameel
Nope, this time it was Cleethorpes time to benefit from defensive hesitancy & made it 5-3 with a free header & on 80 minutes that became 5-4 after a penalty was awarded against Liam Carrick.
Then we had 10 boring minutes where no-one scored but Johno Williams hit the side netting & The Shef scored but it was ruled out for offside.
So we progressed to the next round of the Integro League Cup.
WEBMASTER MOTM - toughie, with a 9 goal game it's always going to be difficult to pick a stand out player (unless he scores all 9!), but Dan Palmer showed great skill again & Tyler featured well. But it came down to a toss up between 2 players who scored 2 each. Moz showed a real poachers nous to capitalise on 2 mistakes for his goals but the Glitterball goes to Ali Smith, who showed great skill to create & score both of his goals. Salut!
107 through the gate including a noisy few from Clee - thanks to everyone who attended
The game marked the final fixture for Dale Whitfield (pictured) who has been providing match analysis to the coaching team & players - Dale travels to Japan at the weekend to study for a PHD. The Media Team have got to know Dale quite well, he is a top lad & we're going to miss him. I know that Spen & Stan have found his input invaluable & the club wishes him well on his travels & studies.
Next up, we are away to Marine in the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday
