Sheffield 0 Frickley 3
On the wings of love......
Les Bleus / Verts have been a little off colour for the last few matches - the players know it, the management know it, we fans know it - BUT they went right the paint palette yesterday to give a storming performance, reminiscent of some of the pre- & early-season games. We'll have that every week please.....
Just the one tweak from Wednesdays team, Josh Nodder coming in for birthday boy Tom Dugdale who was on the bench with Darkenbauer, Morgan Armit, Dangerous Dan Palmer & Stan.
An early chance for the Greens, great work down the left flank by Gav, who fed it inside to Haze (more of him later) who went round the keeper but left himself a tight angle & could only find the side netting. There wasn't too long to wait for the first goal though, great set up play by Richie Patterson, who fed Haze on the edge of the box. Haze controlled it & fired home with a clinical finish. 1 nil on 15 minutes.
Sheffield had a few forays into the Frickley half but the back 3 hardly put a foot wrong & neutralised any moves almost immediately. More & more attacking play from the Greens almost increased their lead with a 'Made In Allott' special, great work by Gav sets up Grant to have a ping from 20 yards, just over.
The inevitable 2nd goal came just before half time. Haze picked up the ball & cut through the defence with footwork that would have made the chaps in Diversity (other modern dance combos are available) sit up & watch, players were calling for the ball to the left & right but none of them were getting it as Haze curled a beautiful effort inside the left hand post. 2 nil & pretty much game over.
HALF TIME - SHEFFIELD 0 FRICKLEY 2
Sheffield came out with better intent in the 2nd half (as you knew they would) & had 10 minutes of pressure but on the hour Sheffield cleared a Frickley corner, it dropped to Haze about 25 yards out & he simply smashed it into the back of the net. A finish that was both beautiful & brutal in equal measure. That definitely was game over & a kinder referee might have stopped the contest at that point. This was Jacobs 2nd hat trick for the club, his previous one coming on Boxing Day 2015 in a 3-1 win at home to Grantham, it was his 34th from 62 starts & his 11th of the season.
A few changes in personnel, Nodder off & Duggie on, Steve Hopewell off replaced by Dangerous Dan Palmer & Darkenbauer on for Richie Patterson.
The Greens did have the ball in the net a 4th time but it was chalked off for offside.
FINAL SCORE - SHEFFIELD 0 FRICKLEY 3
Excellent game management throughout the team meant that Sheffield were never really in with a chance at any stage of the game & it was Frickleys 5th win on the bounce against Sheffield, which I think means we get to keep them!!
Our win was the first in the FA Trophy since 2009 when we beat Bamber Bridge 2-1.

WEBMASTER MOTM - clearly if someone gets a hat trick they are a shoe in for the Glitterball, but great displays throughout the team & special mentions for some of the players who usually go under the radar - RPatts was excellent, Fab Bailey & Grant Allott likewise (as was the whole defence) & Jack Burton just gets better with every game. But Jacob gets the Glitterball this weekend - salut!
A very decent 402 through the gate - a large number being Frickley fans, thank you for your support.
A week off now, next up we're away at Loughborough next Saturday
