Frome RFC 3rd 64 - 12 Cheddar Valley RFC 2nd

Frome RFC 3rd welcomed Cheddar Valley RFC 2nd to Gypsy Lane on Saturday...

The Frome RFC 3rd XV returned to league action this weekend hosting a slightly depleted Cheddar Valley RFC 2nd XV at Gypsy lane.

Frome kicked off the first half and came out strong applying pressure immediately to the visitors forcing an early mistake, from the resulting scrum a well worked move saw Centre Stevan Randall break through the defensive line to score, the conversion being added by Winger Luke Stanley. (7-0)

From the restart Frome went on the attack again and worked their way up the pitch and were awarded a penalty 5 metres out, No.8 Steven Ruddick took a quick tap and popped the ball to Randall who found his way over the line again, the conversion being added by Stanley (14-0 ), Frome didn’t stop there and it was the Centre Randall scoring his third try not long after with another strong run, Stanley converting (21-0)

Confidence was high and another score came after a well worked move from the base of the Scrum which saw Ruddick pick and attack blind offloading to Scrum Half Callum Close who drew the defender to offload to Winger Luke Stanley who danced his way past the cover defence to score and convert his own try. (28-0)

Frome then took their foot of the gas and some good reactions from a loose ball saw Cheddar Valley score from the midfield and another coming from a barrage of attacks on the home sides line. (28-12)

Half Time Score: Frome RFC 3rd 28 - 12 Cheddar Valley RFC 2nd

Frome made several changes at half time and started the second half fully focused and went straight on the attack and it wasn’t long before they scored after a well worked line out which resulted in Dave Evans crashing over, the try converted by Scott Woodward (35-12) from the restart Frome again went on the attack with some sublime running by Gordon Grierson who broke several tackles before recycling the ball to Phil Clarke who found his way across the try line and score, converted by Woodward (42-12)

Wasting no time the home side continued to apply the pressure with great interlinking playing between the Forwards and Backline Frome again found themselves deep in the visitors 22 and from quick ball Mark Regler ran a hard line to go over untouched, the conversion being added by Woodward (49-12)

Frome didn’t let up and scored again this time through replacement Scrum Half Jordan Talbot who twisted and turned his way through the defence to score out wide (54-12) next to score was Fullback Jamie Smith who received the ball from a Cheddar Valley clearance kick who found himself in space and ran through the defence to score out wide (59-12).

The final try of the game was scored by Second Row Owen Davies who ran a superb line and went clean through to score. (64-12)

Final Score: Frome RFC 3rd 64 - 12 Cheddar Valley RFC 2nd

Frome showed great team spirit and look forward to travelling to North Dorset next Friday evening for a game under the lights.
