Cricklade RFC 1st 7 - 66 Frome RFC 2nd
Frome RFC 2nd XV looked to keep on top when they made the log trip to Cricklade on Saturday....
Frome settled into their game plan quickly and after some great phases and passages of play allowed the visiting backline time to pass the ball through the hands for Outside Centre Ben Tiley to dash through. Frome had to regather though after some poor play with passes not going to had and missed chances.
The home side conceded a penalty for a high tackle and it was Scrum Half Steve Morris who tapped quickly and passed to No.8 Stevan Randall who held off a number of defenders to bundle over for the score. Confidence was growing and the following play saw good hands with Winger Kyle Williamson scoring in the corner.
It was Captain Dean Marshall who was next on the scorecard with some well worked phases and game plan allowing him to come onto the ball at pace and dummy the defender, shrug off the incoming fullback to score.
Frome had a sizeable lead, but with 10 minutes to go till half time uncharacteristically decided to take their foot off of the gas. Cricklade managed to get on the scorecard due the visitors ill discipline. A penalty kick into the Frome 22 allowed the home side to set up well and pass the ball out wide to the Winger who dived for the corner only to be held up and put into touch by the covering Winger Williamson, although the efforts were short lived as the Referee deemed the tackle to be high and awarded the home side Penalty try.
Half Time: Cricklade RFC 1st 7 - 26 Frome RFC 2nd
Frome went into half time knowing they'd missed some opportunities. The side went back out onto the field knowing control was key and put this into practice from the kick off causing all sorts of trouble for the home defence. Centre Tiley scored two quick try's.
It wasn’t until the 60th minute that Randall popped up again to cut a fantastic line through the defence to run it in from 20 meters. More excellent work by the Frome backline saw the ball passed down the line to fullback Campbell Taylor who dove over to score in the corner.
Cricklade couldn’t cope with Frome fitness and pressure and gave away a number of penalties keeping them pinned in their half. A successful lineout saw Flanker James Milton take the ball at the front and set up a dummy maul, and with no resistance, he simply ran straight through the opposition forwards. The final try of the day was scored by Tiley, his 4th! An uncharacteristic hard straight line saw him hold off the opposition centre to score under the posts.
Full Time: Cricklade RFC 1st 7 - 66 Frome RFC 2nd
Frome RFC 2nd Captain commented "Overall a good win away from home. Various conditions make the match harder than it should have been but the players came together and, in the end, put a good score extending out overall points difference over second place. We take this into our next home game on December 1st vs Devizes RFC 2nd."
Man of the Match: Steven Randall
