Fry Club FC First Team enjoyed a successful 2016/17 season, culminating in lifting the Somerset County League Premier/First Division Cup, so it came as bit of a surprise when Nigel Lee informed the club that he would not be continuing as Manager of the First Team. The Club were sad to see Nigel and his Assistants Phil Tucker and Malcolm Beck depart however we respect their decision and the attention of the Senior Committee quickly turned to securing the services of the right person to continue to build upon the foundations laid last year.
Adverts were posted and The Club were very humbled by the quality and number of candidates who put their names forward for consideration. After a round of telephone interviews, a shortlist of 3 candidates was drawn up and the Senior Committee members concluded face to face interviews and deliberations earlier this evening.
After a successful campaign with Fry Club FC Reserves in the 2016/17 season which saw the team secure promotion to the Somerset County League Division 1 East, Graham Hunter put his name forward for consideration for the vacant position of First Team Manager. After performing well throughout the interview process, Graham was offered the position of First Team Manager for the upcoming season earlier this evening.
Fry Club FC Chairman Kevin Saunders commented "Graham has demonstrated true ambition as Reserve Team Manager over the past two seasons and was unanimously selected as the successor to the outgoing Manager. We look forward to Graham successfully pushing Fry Club FC to the next level and wish him great success in his aspirations."
Club Secretary Steve Curtis added "We were really pleased when Graham put his name forward for the role, given his positive association with the club over the past few years and the great success he enjoyed with the Reserves last season. There was a strong response to the advert and the calibre of candidates was exceptional. It gave the Senior Committee a very tough decision indeed and it wasn't one which we took lightly."
Graham responded by saying "I am looking forward to this new challenge as First Team Manager after 2 seasons as Reserve Team Manager in which we managed to get promoted to Division 1."
"It is with great optimism that I approach the forthcoming season, hoping to build on the foundations laid by the previous 2 Managers and I look to push us back up towards the top 5 of the Somerset County League Premier Division which is where this great club should be. Longer term I will look forward to continue to support The Club's ambition of progressing to the Toolstation Western League."
"Let's get all players, old and new, down to Frys for pre-season training on Tuesday at 6-45"
