Fullers U17's B team goes top of the League
Fullers under 17s B team got back to winning ways in the league on Sunday with a comprehensive win over Ruislip.
With a depleted squad of just 17 Players the Fullers team took it to their opponents right from the opening moments. With powerful running and energetic support play the Fullers team caught the Ruislip team cold. Quick hands through the backs released back from injury Jack Longbottom who raced clear from his markers to dive over the line just in from the corner for the opening try that was converted from out wide for the extras.
Fullers continued to keep up the pressure on their physically larger opponents and created space time and time again. The back were afforded the space they needed to move the ball out wide as often as possible and Matthew Wright twice found himself clear of the defensive line to score two further tries.
Ruislip responded by playing their forward game and had a good try scoring opportunity that was held up when scrum half Matt Long got himself between the ball and the ground to prevent a score.
The half rumbled on with the mobile Fullers pack moving quickly from one break down to another faster than their opponents. This movement eventually created the space for Fraser Burrow to pick the ball up from the back of the ruck and force his way through the defenders and reach out his hand to score ending a half of dominant Fullers play.
The second half began with a more resolute Ruislip side creating pressure from a powerful forwards platform. This culminated in the Ruislip team camping on the Fullers 22 with attack after attack being repulsed.
Fullers were reduced to 14 men for apparent persistent offside infringements and the excellent Charlie Fern took one for the team to spend 10 minutes in the bin.
Ruislip took advantage of their numerical advantage and managed to crash over the line for a try.
Fullers responded to this by switching back to their mobile forwards game that was beginning to sap the strength of the tiring Ruislip team. Matt Wright again found space after the ball was moved out wide again quickly to score his hat trick.
With the Ruislip team now almost out on their feet Tom Durn broke numerous tackles on the halfway line before side stepping two further tackle attempts to score under the posts to complete the rout.
The referee ended the match giving Fullers a well-deserved bonus point win.
From a coaching point of view a big thank you to everyone on a well won victory with the lads being asked to play in numerous positions to cover the numerical shortages.
