Game of two halves but Fullers come out on top Also Datchworth 2nd XV 14 Fullerians 2nd XV 34

Fullers took and deserved the win against a good Welwyn side. Fullerians took the elements and with the wind and the slope behind them Fullers began to dominate. The scrummage worked particularly well and earned a penalty as Welwyn came off side at the scrum. Full back Evans duly converted.

The first try came when Fullers spread the defence and centre Craig Duncan was on hand to use his power and pace to barge over the line. Evans converted.
They extended their lead moments later as No8 Simon Lye picked up from the scrum and off loaded to his scrum half Max Rawlinson who crashed over the line.

The third try and the best of the match saw almost every player touch the ball in the Welwyn half and with the gaps appearing the ball was shipped wide for wing Connor Head to race in and score unopposed. Evans converted.

Fullers continued to look for the fourth try and possible bonus point but Welwyn were able to stop the onslaught or Fullers lost the ball in contact at critical times.

In the second half saw Fullers use the conditions and pick and drive up field. However, Fullers scored via second row Liam Boyd but the try was disallowed for a double movement.

Welwyn kicked well in the wind to pin Fullers in their own 22. They immediately capitalised on some soft tackling and crashed over the line. The conversion was missed.

They doubled their try tally shortly after as they caught and drove at the line out to race over the line although the referee had given a penalty try. They slotted the conversion.

Fullers got themselves back into the game and got themselves into good scoring opportunities only for the last carry or two on one not to be executed. Welwyn did kill the ball at the breakdown and were penalised but once again Fullers couldn’t quite seem to get that fourth try.

“It was good performance in the first half but we went into our shell in the second and allowed Welwyn back into the match. It would have been nice to get the bonus point as it was on today but to beat Welwyn away from home is a great achievement.
Our next home game is to Tabard on the 5th December.” commented Fullerians head coach Rich Hoskins.

Man of the Match: Simon Lye

Another resolute performance from Fullerians two’s ensured another fantastic win away at Datchworth. In difficult windy conditions Fullers found a way of controlling a dogged Datchworth side after a scrappy opening half hour. Once they got their pods and quick phase play in to gear they were unstoppable and went in as 17-5 half time leaders.
In the second half Datchworth applied more pressure but Fullers were able to keep control of the game outscoring their opponents, ending as 34-14 victors.
After eight games, the two’s stay top of their league with a very impressive points tally of 304 for to 73 against.
