Tough day at the office
Fullers 2's travelled to Old Albanians to face a good and well drilled outfit. The first half saw a spectacular individual score from O. Fountain who gathered the ball on the left wing, teased the face of the defence before demonstrating his famous side-step and fend to penetrate the heart of the OAs defence and touch down under the sticks. The charged down kick to follow was controversial. Fountains try and a penalty from M. Lloyd seemed good enough to head into half time in the lead, but OA's had other ideas. Some great defence from Fullers was eventually broken down and OA's snuck in a try down their left wing with the last play of the half. Their missed conversion saw the scores levelled at 8-8 on the half time whistle. OAs stepped up their intensity just after half time and with the help of some excellent backs moves began to push the game away from Fullers. It was a spirited second half from Fullers who didn't stop battling but unfortunately were beaten by a better side on the day.
A special mention must go to Chalkie, Gav and Ross McCann in the front row for their performance in a scrum that dominated all day, Miles Finnegan who got his first taste if men's rugby and showed why he is one to watch for Fullers in the future, and of course Martin Newman, Joe Hayes and Jonny Williamson who were roped in last minute to strengthen the side and all had excellent performances.
Looking forward to next weeks game Vs Ruislip, with some positives to take from this match despite a heavy defeat!
