Letchworth 5 FULLERIANS 1st XV 37
Another precious bonus point win away from home
Another bonus point win away from home
What a contrast in weather from last week. The game started with torrential rain and within 45 seconds centre Liam Mann scores under the posts after wing Tom Fawssett gathers the ball from the kick off and then Mann crashes over. Full back Dan Evans crashes over for a 7-0 start.
The rain continued to thrash down and Fullers dominated the game. Territory and possession was all Fullerians and then entre Myles Toon went over after some light football work dribbling the ball over the line.
Fullers used the wind and rain well and kicked good field position. Letchworth were caught off side or not rolling away from the ruck and Evans stepped up to kick two superb penalties from far out to stretch the visitors lead to 0-20 in as many minutes.
Letchworth scored with a nice catch and drive from the lineout for a deserved score but that was it for the half. Fullers pushed for the line after the restart and after a strong scrum No8 George Harvey picked up and drove for the line produced a lovely off load for scrum half Andy Hovell to score. Evans missed the conversion for a 5-25 half time score.
In the second half Fullers continued to dominate all aspects of the game and were rewarded with a try and bonus point when George Harvey crashed over from short range.
Letchworth tried to string some phases together but Fullers defence held strong and forced the turnover. They scored their fifth and final try with a lovely move involving all for Mann to add his second of the match. This time it was fly half Luke Jacobs who added the extras.
Fullers looked for the sixth try but the wet ball and forcing the last pass kept the score to a well-deserved bonus point win for Fullers.
“We scored some lovely tries today in difficult conditions but also left some out there that could have been converted. Still two bonus point wins from two games is fantastic” commented Fullerians assistant coach Mike Perrera.
