A brace from skipper George Harvey earns another bonus point win
London 1 North League
We were still in the monsoon season with once again the game starting in torrential rain. Fullers applied early pressure and earned a penalty in front of the posts. Unfortunately this went in the conditions but still kept the visitors in their 22. More pressure from the home side earned another penalty as OPs were caught offside. Fullback Dan Evans converted for a deserved lead.
Fullers scored a lovely try after the ball was shipped away from the scrum and great movement by the back line saw the inform centre Liam Mann in space to out run everyone and score in the corner. Evans converted brilliantly from far out.
The home side extended their lead with another well worked move saw wing Tom Williams charge down the touchline. He chipped over the gathering defence but was tackled but Dan Evans was on hand to touch down as the ball rolled over the try line. Evans converted once again.
Fullers could have scored two or even three more but the slippery ball and conditions weren’t helpful so the score remained 17-0 at the break.
In the second half Fullers continued to press the OPs line but could not quite convert and were stopped by some good defending. In fact it was OPs who scored first after the break as they kicked wide after a good lineout for their winger to gather pass back inside to score.
Fullers scrum was dominant and they scored after George Harvey picked up from the base to burrow his way over the line. Evans converted. He scored another in a similar fashion and earned that precious bonus point for Fullers. Evans added the conversion once again for a final score of 31-5.
“We left three or four tries out their today with our ball retention letting us down and decision making. Still if you said to me we would have three bonus point wins from three games at the start of the season I would have said great. We just need to keep beating that drum.” commented Fullerians Head Coach Rich Hoskins.
