Mann hat trick earns valuable away bonus point away win
London 1 North
Fullerians travelled to Essex to play against newcomers South Woodham Ferrers (SWF). Fullers started much the brighter and started to make headway into the home sides defence. Centre Liam Mann saw the gap and with pace and quick feet scored under the posts for a 0-7 lead.
The home side came straight back from the restart where Fullers knocked on. The resultant scrum saw the ball shipped wide and aided by some poor one on one tackling SWF were able to score in the corner.
Fullers responded with two penalties by full back Dan Evans as ill-discipline at the breakdown started to cost the home side. Fullers did try to extend their lead further but a couple of silly mistakes one at the lineout and another at the ruck running into their own player let their hosts off the hook. 5-13 at the break with all to play for.
Fullers continued to dominate and SWF had a player in the sinbin for repeated offences at the breakdown. Dan Evans added the penalty to extend Fullers lead. With a numerical advantage Fullers pressed their host’s line and eventually the gaps came. Wing Sam Tinsley was in space and was caught just short of the line however moment’s late fly half Myles Toon chipped though and was able to touch down in the goal area. Evans on a rare occasion missed the conversion.
Another sinbin for SWF saw even more gaps appear in the home sides defence which centre Liam Mann again exploited after some good continuity from forwards and backs.
Near the end Fullers were going over for the push over try but the referee awarded Fullers a penalty. A quick tap saw the ball shipped wide for Mann to score out wide. Evans converted to round off a deserved bonus point win.
“We could have been more clinical in the first half and put the game out of sight by half time but we made a few errors which proved costly. However, to get a bonus point win away from home is always satisfying.” commented Fullerians head coach Rich Hoskins.
