Brentwood 36 FULLERIANS 1st XV 5
Spirited display not enough for high flyers Brentwood
London 1 North League
Fullerians went to Brentwood full of confidence and really played well at times despite changes early on in the game. Brentwood had pace in the back line and threatened the Fullers line at times but Fullers defence worked held firm.
Fullers did eventually buckle after wave after wave of attack and allowed Brentwood into score. They immediately bounced back after a powerful Fullers scrum pushed their opponents back and scrum half Tom Sherriff had the easiest job to run in and score. 5-5 and Fullers tails were up.
They did lose second row Craig South (hamstring) and Captain George Harvey (calf strain) early on in the match which almost rallied this young Fullers team. They pressured the Brentwood defence who started to get rattled as things didn’t go their way. Unfortunately this pressure didn’t get turned into points and in fact it was Brentwood who scored next after Myles Toon was sinbinned for a high tackle.
19-5 at the break and it was all to play for but Fullers made a few errors when building momentum which allowed their hosts off the hook. Dominic Toon was also sinbinned in the second half so once again Fullers were done to 14 men. Brentwood capitalised on this numerical advantage and their talented backline ran in a couple of more tries.
Once back to 15 Fullers worked well and pinned their hosts on their own line only for a miss or dropped last pass to go astray in the final phase.
“We did well today considering we lost personnel in the first quarter of the game and up against Brentwood who are second in the league. We weren’t clinical enough and didn’t take our chances where Brentwood did and deserved the win. The guys worked hard and were disappointed as the score didn’t reflect the game” commented Fullerians Head Coach Rich Hoskins.
