Old Priorians 48 FULLERIANS 1st XV 7
Poor second half costs Fullers dear
London 1 North League
After the Christmas break Fullers were found wanting after what was the poorest display of the season. They started badly when Old Ps ran in within the first few minutes to score. First up tackling was non-existent as the home side ran in from the half way line.
Fullerians did start to claw their way back into the game after a lovely Catch and drive from the line out saw Jamie Molloy crash over for the score. Full back Tom Fawssett added the extras for a 5-7 lead.
Fullers continued to push the Old Ps line but they held firm. In fact Fullers opted for the scrum instead of the 3 points as they were so dominant in the scrum. Sam Tinsley was almost through with a great backs move but had a terrible high tackle as he was through. A red card with other referees but no a yellow but no penalty try, just a penalty. Fullers again opted for the scrum but they couldn’t quite get over the gain line to convert this pressure into points.
In fact Old Ps went down the pitch to add salt to the wound and score just before the half for a 12-7 half time score.
The second half started badly for Fullers. The kick off was poor on what was a tennis court sized pitch and the resultant halfway scrum saw an attacking play that Fullers couldn’t contain. Old Ps did at times off load in the tackle to great effect and Fullers first up tackling once again was very poor.
Wings Sam Tinsley and James Maher did try and add spark to the game only for there to be lack of support or the ball was lost or stolen in contact.
“We played ok in the first half and were in the game but that was the worst second half I have seen us play this season if not longer. Our tackling was woeful, we lost defensive shape and didn’t really produce anything in attack and Old Priorians deserved their win. They were a completely different team we beat comfortably earlier in the season but we were well below par with probably too much Christmas cheer adding to our poor display.” commented Fullerians Head Coach Rich Hoskins.
