Gaerwen win 7 goal thriller
Gaerwen 4-3 Aberffraw
Last Saturday (April 17th) we welcomed Aberffraw to Lon Groes for a Welsh Alliance Division Two fixture.
The away side came into the game full of confidence having won 6 league games on the bounce and scoring 18 goals in the process. Gaerwen on the other hand had not played for 3 weeks due to postponements. This showed in the opening 10 minutes as Gaerwen struggled to get any rhythm going with Aberffraw putting early pressure on to the hosts with a number of long balls and throw ins into the box.
However, the first chance of the game fell to Dafydd Jones, who saw his effort cannon off the post following an excellent run. The rebound fell to Liam Morris who had two efforts amazingly saved on the line, the ball looped up into the air and Dylan Williams made no mistake with a fine finish.
Just five minutes later Aberffraw equalised as a powerful run from midfielder Connor Rees found him one on one with goalkeeper Josh Roberts, Rees made no mistake firing the ball under the on-rushing Gaerwen stopper. Aberffraw went in front on 20 minutes with a powerful header from their skipper Stephen Jenkins. Gaerwen immediately responded after an excellent header from Liam Morris. Aberffraw seemed to be camped in the Gaerwen half for the reminding 10 minutes of the half as the home-side struggled to keep possession playing against a very strong wind. Aberffraw re-took the lead on 43 minutes a speculative volley beating Josh Roberts in the Gaerwen net.
