Another good performance from the Development Team, a great game and 3 points in the bag for Garforth. Town raced into the lead against Evo Stick opponents Radcliffe Borough on 10 minutes when the industrious Garforth captain Lee Coulthard caught the Radcliffe cdm in possession before slipping the ball to Wesley Gibrill-Keating who coolly placed the ball past the Radcliffe keeper to produce a slick goal. Radcliffe quickly equalised when a lovely curled 20 yard shot sailed into the top corner. Minutes later Town were awarded a penalty when young Garforth player Josh Prince was cleaned out in the area. Raul Fletcher's penalty kick was saved by the Radcliffe keeper (and so the curse of the Development Team penalty taking continued - 3 penalties awarded this season - all missed) The miss was cruelly punished when Radcliffe took the lead a minute or so later with a quick counter attack. Radcliffe then had a golden 15 minute spell and their quick, experienced forwards gave the 3 young Town centre halves (Prince aged 16, Pickup aged 16 and Diggle aged 17 ) a bit of a torrid time. An open goal miss and a top save from Garforth keeper Booth meant that the score remained at 2-1 to Radcliffe. The Garforth youngsters wiped out the lead when a high pressing policy produced dividends. Helmo Silva pressed the in - possession full back and his poor back pass put the keeper under pressure. The ever alert Raul Fletcher pounced, took the ball off him and dribbled into the unguarded net. Radcliffe then again took the lead when their striker got on the end of a good diagonal before Raul Fletcher drove into the box and unleashed a vicious shot which the Radcliffe keeper could only parry in to the path of Wesley Gibrill-Keating. The latter headed in from 5 yards out. 3-3 at half time. What an exhilarating 45 minutes! The second half was more of a tight affair and it looked good for Garforth when a lovely weighted in - behind Coulthard pass was clinically finished by Gibrill-Keating. A hat trick for him and the match ball - not bad for a lad who doesn't become 17 until August! Town's Harold Monkham almost made it 5 goals to his team with a smashing long range effort that crashed against the crossbar before Town's 16 year old Aiden Croft curled in a beautiful 20 yard effort on 65 minutes. Radcliffe scored a consolation goal in the last minute. Great game and a credit to both teams.
