Garforth 1 Thackley 2
Poor finishing sees Dennyboys take the points.
Due to work commitments I'm afraid I can only give you the full report from 35 minutes onwards. Sources tell me it was a much improved first half from that on Saturday amid lightening flashes in all directions, threatening a downpour that thankfully never materialised. A decent chance fell to Mitch Hamilton early on, but sadly it was another game where the opponents drew first blood; Ryan Farrell putting Thackley ahead on 13 mins.
Another chance fell to Hamilton on 36 mins after good work by Russell Headley, but shot wide of the post. Moments later a Jake Rose drive was held by Dennyboys goalkeeper Matthew Convey, and the keeper made an excellent save from debutee Vincent Dhesi after he was put through by Hamilton.
The visitors came more into the game second half, with substitute George Eustance a threat down the left. He almost put his side further ahead in the first few minutes of the half with a strike from the edge of the box which just cleared the crossbar, and then shooting narrowly wide from 25 yards shortly after. Sandwiched between those chance, debutee Sam Lingard's free kick was met with a towering header from Luke Mccrum which went just wide. On 55 mins Daniel Broadbent bent the ball round the far post for the visitors after another run from Eustance, and then down the other end Mark Simpson was inches from connecting with Hamilton's cross to the six yard box. Dhesi went close on 64 mins with a shot over the bar from a narrow angle. Sadly the excellent work from Hamilton and Headley wasn't matched by quality in the final third, and this was duly punished by the visitors on 66 mins. Eustance pounced on a mistake at the back to make a mazy run into the box and place the ball into the bottom corner.
On 73 mins a low strike from Simpson was kept out of the bottom corner by Convey, and the keeper was there again moments later to save at his near post from Hamilton after an excellent run down the left.
Another Garforth mistake at the back on 79 mins almost ended in Kristian Hargreaves making it 3-0, but he dragged a shot wide of the far post. On 80 mins though Town were back in the game when Dhesi fed Simpson to fire through the legs of Convey and into the net off the far post.
Plenty of time to find an equaliser, but again the finish was lacking and a couple of corner kicks were wasted, and Town supporters saw their side suffer another defeat. The closest we came was when a Hamilton strike was spilled by Convey to the feet of Simpson, but the keeper made a second block to deny the striker a second.
Unlike some recent games it was at least a 90 minute performance from Rob Hunter's side, but other sides' ability to punish Town's lack of conviction is a worry. Another home game this Saturday when Albion Sports are the visitors (kick-off 3pm).
