Its just seven weeks until the start of the new season which promises to be the busiest Garstang RUFC has ever had.

The senior men begin with 2 pre season friendlies on August 19th with the 1st XV away to Fleetwood and the 2nd XV at home to Blackburn and then on August 26th the 1st XV open the competitive season with a home fixture in the Lancashire Cup competition against Newton le Willows. The last time the lads played Newton le Willows, they went on to win the cup that year.

Whilst the 2nd XV remain in Division 5 North of the Raging Bull intermediate leagues the 1st XV have been mucked about a lot and, due to various factors beyond the clubs control, have ended up in South Lancs Cheshire Three (North).

This is a conferenced league of 17 clubs (split north and south) which means that the first half of the season is against regular old foes, there is everything to play for as at the half way point both conferences split and the top four teams from each conference then battle it out for the two promotion spots. And yes, if we play well then there is every chance of a trip to the Isle of Man.............

The 1st XV open their league account on September 2nd with an away trip to Ormskirk and the 2nd XV with a home match against local rivals Kirby Lonsdale 3rd XV, which includes Garstang old boy Jon Corless.

The club is hoping that the legendary Viagrans team will also make the odd foray onto the pitch in addition to their annual end of season tour.

The ladies kick off their season also in a new league. Due to a large influx of new ladies teams and their own improved performances last season, the ladies have been promoted to North West One.

They start their season on Sunday 10th September with a local derby against Hoppers and then open their home account with a rare Saturday fixture on September 23rd when they take on Vagabonds Ladies from the Isle of Man at Hudson Park. The ladies fixtures can be found here:

The new addition to the senior ranks this season is Garstangs first ever Senior Colts XV. This is the culmination of years of hard work by Bert, Ian Davies, Andy Proctor and many others, in that we now have our own conveyor belt of talent.

They open their season on Sunday 3rd of September with a home fixture against Bury Senior Colts at Hudson Park.

The Colts are in Raging Bull Senior Prelim league F. Their fixtures can be found here:

The mini section of the club return to training on September 3rd and they have their first fixture of the season on September 24th when they welcome Southport mini section to Hudson Park for the first time.

All in all, there will be a lot going on this year at Garstang RUFC.
