Gateshead Storm v Millom

Gateshead Storm Open Aged side fell to a 44 – 18 defeat to Millom this afternoon at Winlaton.
Storm started the game playing up the hill and the first 10 minutes of the game gave no impression of what was about to happen as they completed their sets and forced errors from the Millom team. They were unlucky not to score when a pass to centre Luke Banham was judged to be forward when he was in the clear and ready to touch down.
The game took a turn for the worse on 14 minutes when Niall Harris out the visitors into the lead after 2 repeat sets. This started a period of 20 minutes where Storm didn’t touch the ball once. Millom added a trio of tries through Terrill, Warren and Hodgeson to put them in a commanding 22- 0 lead.
When Storm did get the ball they scored straight away through Zach Clark, who added another just before half time to give them hope going into the break 14 points down.
The second half was a more even affair, before Dom Mewes got sin-binned for interference at the play the ball. Despite the lack of numbers Storm were still applying pressure and when Brooks was sin-binned for Millom Clark added his hat-trick try.
Storm then hit the self-destruct button giving away needless penalties which saw Millom take the game away with 2 tries from Dawson and Brady.
Joe Capless scored a smart try in the corner following a clever kick from Dan Coates, but it was Millom who had the last word when Terrill barged over for his second of the day.
It was a disappointing day, but it can all be put right next week when high flying Leigh East make the journey north. Make some time to visit Winlaton RUFC for a 2.30 kick off and cheer the lads on.
