HOLBROOK SPORTS ensured that the title race will go right down to the wire as they beat a ST ANDREWS side which just needed a point from the game at Shaw Lane to win the championship. A crowd of 101 saw Sam Ridgard give the Brookies a 27th minute lead and Isaac Minnot fired home a second in the 72nd minute. Within four minutes Lewis Turland had pulled one back for the Saints who put on terrific pressure for that equaliser which would have seen them land the crown, but Holbrook held out leaving Bardon Hill to win their last two games to snatch it from within their grasp. And Holbrook hold the key once again to the title with Bardon Hill having to visit Shaw Lane on Wednesday evening for what might well turn out to be the decider. Another bumper crowd is expected.

At the other end of the table GREENWOOD MEADOWS suffered their 14th home defeat of the season as ARNOLD TOWN came away from Lenton Lane with the points. Simon Hore put the Eagles ahead fifteen minutes in and that’s the way it remained until Justin Evans levelled for the Greens 19 minutes from the end. Just as hopes were kept alive of not finishing in the wooden spoon position Courtney Hastings popped us with an Arnold winner in the 85th minute. If Greenwood are to avoid picking up the wooden spoon and possible relegation they will have to win their last game at home to Stapenhill next Saturday by a 20-0 scoreline!

The rest of the results were fairly academic with little more than pride to play for, although BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC took a big step to finishing the season in fourth place with a 4-3 home win over BORROWASH VICTORIA in a game which had anything but an end-of-season look about it. Lee Barrett put Blaby ahead in the 18th minute and then again for the second time in 39 minutes after Elliott Tomlinson had squared things up for the Vics four minutes earlier. Dave Moon re-established parity three minutes before the break and Arash Abdollahi put the Vics in front for the first time three minutes after the break. But two goals from Aaron Preston in 72 and 76 minutes made sure the points stayed at home.

AYLESTONE PARK virtually made sure of not being handed the wooden spoon when they ended their penultimate match at home to HOLWELL SPORTS with a share of the spoils and six goals. Ryan Calver put them ahead after eight minutes but Kieran Foster levelled things up moments before the half time interval. Chris Hibbitt put Sports ahead for the first time on the hour only for Mark Preston to level again six minutes later. Lamin Camara thought his 70th minute goal for Aylestone would be enough for them to celebrate their third home win of the season, but Scott Mooney ensured the stalemate with his equaliser five minutes from the end.

ANSTEY NOMADS gained their second successive win with an odd goal of three success away to GRAHAM STREET PRIMS. Joe Hartopp on 49 minutes and Darren Taylor on 78 put them ahead and Toby Howard pulled one back for the home side with ten minutes left.

The best away win of the day came from GEDLING MINERS WELFARE who triumphed 4-1 at KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE. Mitch Slawson gave Gedling a good start in only the second minute with what proved to be the quickest goal of the day. Anthony Brown added a second just before the break and Jack Hopper a third in the 66th minute. Josh Stevenson got one back for Kimberley in the 84th minute but within two minutes Jack Hopper’s second had opened up the three goal advantage again for the visitors.

The biggest win of the day though was reserved for Jenkins & Jenkins sponsored League Cup finalists RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC who beat STAPENHILL 4-0 at the Recreation Ground. Kieran Davies and Sam Adams got the goals which gave them a comfortable interval advantage, and a late brace from Jake Morris was just what Olympic needed from their last league game of the season to take into the cup final with them
