Just a short while ago the title looked to be heading clearly down Bardon Hill way as they built up a seven point lead at the top. Two successive defeats, however, have put quite a different complexion on things and with just two games to go it is St. Andrews who have built up a six point gap at the pinnacle. Matt Howarth’s goal ten minutes from the end sent BARDON HILL spinning to their second successive defeat in a tight game at BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC with the only goal of the match in favour of the home side. Now Bardon Hill will have to hope that Blaby will do them a favour on Monday when they entertain the new title favourites St Andrews.

Whilst Bardon Hill were having jitters, ST ANDREWS were firing on all cylinders with a resounding 4-1 win at GRAHAM STREET PRIMS. The result never really looked in any doubt after Tony Warner in twelve minutes and Ben Stephens on the half hour had given them a good advantage. Stephens grabbed his second ten minutes after the break to widen the gap, and although Lawrence Constable pulled one back for Prims with five minutes to go Shay Brennan put the final touch to a classy performance by the Saints in the last minute.

After an indifferent start to the season RADFORD may be a little disappointed that they were unable to put a bit more pressure on the top two. A place in the top three looks certain though after their 21st win of the season at GREENWOOD MEADOWS, And, indeed, if results go their way they might even pinch runners-up spot. Goals from Danny Hough (13), David Udoh (56) and Carey Knight (69) gave them a comfortable win at Lenton Lane.

The day’s biggest winners were SOUTH NORMANTON ATHLETIC who thumped struggling AYLESTONE PARK 7-2 at Lees Lane. But it wasn’t until the last ten minutes that the result became so emphatic. Ashley Whitt put the Shiners two up inside the first seven minutes, but two goals in a minute from Tom Carey and Mark Preston around the half hour mark sent the teams in level at the break. Anthony Fay put the home side back in front a minute into the second period before four more Shiners goals in the last ten minutes sealed their big win. Ashley Whitt completed his hat-trick, there was a brace from Adam Gillott and a stoppage time strike from Tom Betteridge.

STAPENHILL and ARNOLD TOWN managed eight goals between them as the home side came back from a 3-1 interval deficit to win 5-3. Dean Bromley had given Stapenhill an early lead only for James Price, Courtney Hastings and Jimmy Spiers to put the Eagles in a strong position by the break. Nathan Rolph started the come back in the 59th minute and Jordan Dent them gave Stapenhill the points with a splendid hat-trick in 21 minutes.

ANSTEY NOMADS slithered to their first defeat in a month with a 2-1 reversal at HOLWELL SPORTS. Harrison Stannard and Scott Mooney put Holwell two in front at the break and Stacey Coore cut the lead midway through the second half, but Nomads were unable to take a slice of the spoils.

Just when HOLBROOK SPORTS thought they had started to turn their season round they suffer another home defeat. League Cup finalists RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC carried their midweek victory into this game and were successful by the odd goal of three. Eddie West after eight minutes and a Callum Green own goal just before the hour were only punctured by a very late strike from Jamie Shelton for the Brookies.

GEDLING MINERS WELFARE won 2-0 at ASHBY IVANHOE thanks to Mitch Slawson’s 28th minute opener and Alex Clarson’s second just before the break.

BARROW TOWN and BORROWASH VICTORIA shared the spoils in the day’s only drawn game. Ibris Kabongo started the ball rolling for the Vics after ten minutes, but Jordan Level levelled 14 minutes later. It was then the turn of Barrow to take the lead given them by Francis Fennemore after 59 minutes. Sean Fell restored parity three minutes from the end.
