Miners miss out again at home
Holwell……4 (Stevenson 20 and 53, Wells 32, Foster 49)
Holwell run out winners at Plains Road
Another disappointing day at the office for the Miners at home where Holwell were allowed to run riot and deservedly came out on top.
Gedling had no answer to the slick counter attacking movement from Sports in a game in which Bomber Harris and Kieron Foster were splendid down the flanks.
The visitors were on their game from the off with fine chances coming along at regular intervals to Wells and Tinsley. For their part Gedling conjured up a couple of decent chances through Francis and Jack Hopper, all coming to nothing.
The opener came on 20. Home defender Knight pulled back Tinsley in the box and visiting skipper Michael Stevenson converted the penalty. Just after the half hour and the lead was doubled. Foster outstripped the defence down the right and put the ball on a plate for Wells to beat Lance Walker from close range.
Much of the same from the visitors after the break and the third came 3 minutes in, Foster slotting home from the far post.
Gedling were beginning to make a game of it with substitutes Tom Grady and Alex Clarson making some inroads into the Sports defence but with little luck in front of goal.
Another penalty after 52 for the visitors, but this time Walker made a fine save to deny Stevenson his second. The ball however wasn’t cleared from the box and the penalty taker made amends and crashed the ball home through a crowd of players.
The home team were trying hard enough but were finding the Holwell defence a tough nut to break.
Clarson went close when his shot rebounded off a post, but Walker was the busiest of the two keepers making a string of fine spots to keep the score dow.
Another poor performance from Gedling at home but, once again, some good signs are there with a couple of good individual perfrormances to brighten the Management’s teams day.
