Junior Section - How we work

Gerrards Cross Hockey Club is part of Gerrards Cross Sports Club. Our home astroturf is at Beaconsfield High School for Girls, where we carry out our Junior Coaching. The Sports Club have a Club House at Dukes Wood in Gerrards Cross.

Gerrards Cross Hockey Club provides high quality junior hockey coaching with a top class coach, and playing opportunities for boys and girls from the age of 5 to 18. Older juniors represent our adult teams. Players have progressed to County and Regional representation and to successful National League teams. However we welcome all standards and abilities and are proud of our friendly approach.

Our Junior Coordinator/Organiser is Deborah Stapleton, an experienced hockey player who takes responsibility for the organisation of all the activities of our Junior players with the support of the Head Coach, Team Managers and Joint Welfare Officer.

Each age group Team has a Team Manager who is responsible for identifying and encouraging the squad of players from the correct age group, team selection, advice, coordinating arrangements for matches, League liaison, identifying players for County trials and is the first point of contact for parents. We are very fortunate as a Club, in having Team Managers who do a great job and are popular and well respected within their teams.

Gerrards Cross Hockey Club is also fortunate in having the longstanding support of professional coach John Shaw who is an England Hockey Level Three Coach with a distinguished International playing record. John delivers top quality coaching to our younger beginners and improvers on a Friday and to U16 Squad members and above on a Thursday. He is now assisted by Junior Coaches and Young Leaders from within the Club and helps in their development.

Julia Wilson supports the Juniors as Joint Junior Welfare Officer and Club Volunteer Coordinator with responsibility for CRB checking and First aid organisation and supporting the Youth Committee with their Grant award.

Gerrards Cross Hockey Club has been awarded "Clubs First" status by England Hockey which is recognition of all the hard work undertaken by those involved with our Junior hockey players.
